Dad Urged To Report School After Officials Lose His Autistic Child

When you drop off your children at school or put them on the bus, you are trusting the school to take care of them and keep them safe. Sometimes, things happen, and no one is perfect when it comes to the staff and faculty.

But when one dad on TikTok shared details of his 5-year-old son’s school losing his son during the school day, it was more than just fumbling the bag at school.

After he shared his story, which included details of his son, who is on the autism spectrum, being found in a bathroom, naked, with another child, other users urged the dad to report the school.

Some even said he should have his son examined at a hospital immediately to make sure he was physically unharmed.

There are a lot of questions, and although some are from other parents and TikTok users, many of them are from the dad himself.

The dad said no one told him about his missing son right away.

@gwynough EDIT: CHECK MY OTHER PINNED VIDEOS. I am beyond livid. They don’t even know how long he was gone or alone or naked in that bathroom or who with. These schools and teachers are legally responsible for our children while in their care and they can’t even spare a passing glance for the safety of their most vulnerable students. #schools #americanschoolsystem #momtok #parenttok #parentsoftiktok ♬ original sound – gwynough

In the video, the dad explains that he drops off his 5-year-old son in kindergarten early at school to take advantage of the free school breakfast the district provides students.

At drop-off one morning, however, a teacher told him she was sorry she didn’t call him the previous night. It’s then that the dad is informed of the mishap involving no one in the school noticing his son leaving the gym, where breakfast is served, and making his way to the other side of the building.

‘So I’m finding out about the situation a full 24 hours after it happened,’ he says in his TikTok.

“At breakfast, my son went missing,” the dad shares. He adds that the teachers “were not paying attention” and his 5-year-old “managed to leave the cafeteria and he went through the whole school.”

He then explains that teachers later found his son an unknown amount of time later in a bathroom with another child in a similar life skills class that his autistic son is in.

Not only that, but in order to get to this bathroom, the child would have had to leave the cafeteria gym, walk across a courtyard, and re-enter the school through a door that should have been locked.

The dad also says the bathroom is next to an entrance wherea security guard is supposed to be posted. There is an extreme lack of security at the school and information for the dad at this point.

Not only is the father furious about not being told right away about what occurred on the day the incident happened, but he is also upset the school has not done enough to explain what took place.

He does say in a follow-up video that a police investigation has begun and that he plans to possibly start a legal fund if needed.

@gwynough An update and repeat for those who missed it. If anyone wants to directly help raise a possible legal fund or just help me make my rent as I deal with this crisis venmo jsgulley96. I’ve gotten a lot of support and out cry, but a good bit of that has been directed very angerly and aggressively at me in my dm’s which I frankly don’t need so dms have been turned off for the time being. I am doing literally everything I can in this situation and everything I as my child’s father feel and know to be the best course of action and freaks telling me to get my son QUOTE “sedated at the hospital” clearly care more about getting a result than the safety and emotional stability of him. My child is on the spectrum but is completely verbal (thanks to lots of speech therapy!!). It does not help that all of this happened both 24 hours PAST the event and on a holiday weekend so most of not ALL of my possible resource centers are closed for the weekend in my small town. Keep up the anger but keep it directed in the correct spot. And stop asking me where I live and the name of my child’s school cuz literally why would I release that information while there is an active investigation going on or while he attends that school? #fyp #childsafety #momtok #parentsoftiktok #dadtok ♬ original sound – gwynough

“As soon as you said bathroom my heart dropped for you,” one user commented on the TikTok. “Get a lawyer, now. Take that baby out of that school.”

A former teacher chimed in to add, “Go straight to the superintendent. Record everything and then put it in writing in a follow up email. Schools are terrified of public opinion.”

Others urged the dad to make sure he reports everything and even gets security footage if he can.
