At this point, someone could write an entire anthology on the weird, disturbing, and even tragic things that happen during gender reveal parties. Gender reveals that were once meant to celebrate learning additional information about a growing baby-to-be have turned into garish displays that range from foolish to fatal.
With all of the reasons why having a gender reveal may not be a good idea, they are still immensely popular. So there is never a shortage of content showing the strange things people do when they are expecting a new baby. The latest example we came across was oddly aggressive.

Naturally, this gender reveal didn't go as smoothly as it should have.
In the latest example of a gender reveal gone cringe, an expectant father repeatedly strikes his pregnant partner to reveal a puff of smoke signifying the babyâs gender. In the video, originally posted in April on kirramahaley_âs TikTok account, her partner punches the strike pads the mommy-to-be is holding up.
As is customary with gender reveals, the color does not reveal itself right away. So the father keeps hitting, harder and harder, dangerously close to the baby bump.

The colorful smoke eventually appeared.
Thankfully, after the dad removed his gloves, a puff of pink smoke materialized before things escalated any further. Then the dad hit the pads one more time for good measure. While he was uncomfortably close to the growing baby, no pregnant people were injured in this reveal.
This was actually mild in terms of some other reveals weâve reported, and the mom herself appeared pretty strong and fit, but that didnât stop the internet from weighing in on the potential dangers of this scenario.
Someone asked how this passed muster.
âThat last shot was almost an abortion,â one X user wrote.
âI am incredibly uncomfortable watching this untrained armpuncher throwing at a pregnant lady,â another shared.
Someone else asked how anyone involved believed this was a good idea. Questions that need answers.
'Heterosexuality and gender essentialism are so scary,' one user commented.
Other users took their thoughts on the viral clip a bit further, commenting more on its social implications.

After all, even Jenna Karvunidis, the woman credited with creating the gender reveal trend, has had to expand her own thinking about gender. The child she first had a gender reveal for, who is a girl, now prefers to express herself in more nonbinary ways, wearing suits and short hair.
More parents should take a page out of Jennaâs book and let their children lead the conversation when it comes to their gender.
