If there is one thing that moms who rely on EBT benefits don’t need, it’s a man coming for them about how they spend the money granted to them by the government. But trust social media users to say what they will, because one man on TikTok went off in a rant about his disapproval of a woman using some of her EBT benefits to buy $27 cupcakes for her child to bring to his ABA therapy session to celebrate his birthday.
I’m sorry, but no part of that sentence bothers me, so why should it bother this guy on his soapbox? He says in his video that the woman is a reason why he has no problem with people getting their SNAP benefits and other food assistance taken away due to the government shutdown, and honestly, he keeps digging himself in deeper here.
So the internet came together to support the unnamed mother and got their digital pitchforks ready. They clapped back at him in his own comments, and then someone stitched his TikTok to lay into him further. This is literally what these social media platforms should be for.

The man called out a woman for using her EBT card for her son’s birthday cupcakes.
The man who made the original TikTok, Nate, says in his video that he’s angry because she used “taxpayer money to buy something not nutritionally beneficial to your child.” He also says that she could have used her EBT card to buy the ingredients for cupcakes and then make them herself instead of buying premade cupcakes.
Luckily, someone more knowledgeable than him piped up in the comments with, “So fun fact, you can only buy certain approved foods on EBT. If she used EBT on cupcakes, they’re an approved item. She did nothing wrong.”
“In her defense when I was on food stamps I bought birthday cake and cupcakes for my kids,” another parent wrote. “They deserved to be celebrated on their birthdays regardless of my situation.”
Most of the other people who commented prove that Nate chose the wrong place and the wrong time to shame a mom for using her EBT card how she saw fit to. Another person who definitely passed the vibe check wrote, “This was an awful take, dude. Gross.”
The man who stitched Nate’s video posted in his TikTok that he watched the video more than once “trying to find the humanity in it.”
Spoiler alert, he wasn’t able to. Shocker, right?
The man points out that, at the end of the day, it’s literally just cupcakes. The little boy was able to share with friends to celebrate a special day. This wasn’t on a whim, and this wasn’t in place of other food. It was for a birthday.
According to parents in the comments under that response video, Nate has no humanity if his gripe is with a child and the child’s mother for the cupcake purchase, especially because of the instance in which the boy wanted to share the cupcakes.
“That guy is so disappointing,” a user commented. “ABA therapy is for children with autism. He wanted to share his birthday with his therapists and friends at therapy. People have no humanity. It’s incredibly sad.”
