Even the woman who is credited with creating gender reveal parties admits that they have gotten a little out of hand. She also no longer subscribes to the notions of gender in the way weâve been taught and recognizes that the lengths people go to to host extravagant gender reveal parties has not only gotten outrageous, but that the parties can also be dangerous.
Some have proven dangerous to the environment and others dangerous to human beings. Sadly, there is yet another example as a pilot recently lost his life participating in a gender reveal for a couple in Mexico.

The guests didn't immediately notice the plane was crashing.
The stunt plane crashed seconds after emitting pink smoke to reveal that the couple would be the new parents of a baby girl. And while the crash took place feet away from the party, the guests didnât immediately notice. The reveal and the beginning of the crash were captured on video. In the video, the unidentified couple stands in front of a sign that reads âOh Babyâ as their friends and family look on.
One of the guests eventually called the authorities.
The plane, a Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee, emitted pink smoke into the sky and confetti shot out of a cannon and onto the ground, the New York Post reported. The left wing dipped dangerously as the pilot, 32-year-old Luis Ăngel N., pulled the plane upward before it spiraled out of control.
While the party guests, didnât immediately notice the crash, LĂnea Directa reported that it was one of the guests who eventually called for help. Authorities found the pilot lying in the wreckage of the plane.
The pilot succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he later died. The video, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter) has not only gone viral, it has reignited discussion about the often dangerous nature of gender reveals.
âThese gender reveal parties are getting out of hand when people die annually because of them,â one user wrote.
âGender reveal parties continue to be among the stupidest, most narcissistic things humankind has ever invented,â another posted.
âNo one gives a remote s— what genitals your baby will have,â another comment reads. “Stop doing this agonizingly vain nonsense.”
Some said the party wasn't to blame.
Others felt it was unfair to blame this tragedy on the gender reveal itself.
âI just dont understand why the couple getting blamed for the wing of a plane they werenât driving failing,â one user wrote.
Others thought that itâs the extravagant nature of the parties that is the real issue.
Another user wrote: âItâs not the parentsâ fault. It was an accident. But this whole gender reveal thing is getting out of hand. No need to do all this extra s— to know the gender of ur baby like …â
This is far from the first time a gender reveal has ended in tragedy.
The more extravagant the reveals, the more likely they are to cause damage or end fatally. In 2020, a gender reveal sparked a wildfire in California, consuming 10,000 acres of land. In 2021, another plane in Mexico crashed in the middle of a gender reveal. Both of the pilots eventually died as a result of the crash. And this is just the short list.
Even when there arenât casualties, weird things seems to happen around gender reveals, like the boy choking on a cupcake as he learned he was about to have a sister.
Obviously, we canât tell anyone how to celebrate the impending arrival of a child. But with all of these news stories, everyone should be extra careful at these parties.
