A dog may be man’s best friend, but it can also be a child’s greatest protector. Dogs love their humans as much as we love our pets. They become part of the family and will often go out of their way to protect us. Some dogs become particularly worried when it comes to kids. They never want anything to happen to their youngest charges, and Ivy the Berner knows all about it.
A photographer named Ryan caught his dog, Ivy, mindfully watching his 2-year-old daughter while she took a walk on their property. Ivy is a Bernese Mountain Dog who won’t let anything happen to the family she loves, and this sweet video proves it.

Ivy is the family's protector.
Ryan, who keeps his last name private, told Newsweek his daughter wanted to walk along a path by herself. Ryan and Ivy both kept a close eye on her.
“I told her she could walk as far as she wanted on that path. When she got pretty far away, she screamed proudly, ‘I did it!’,” Ryan said.
The dog waited for the child to stop.
But the concerned dog decided enough was enough when the toddler got too far away for Ivy’s comfort.
“At that point, my dog, her best friend, who had been impatiently waiting and didn’t like how far away she was, ran to be with her,” Ryan explained.
Ivy and the little girl have a sweet relationship that Ryan often documents on social media.
The video quickly went viral.
Ryan shared the sweet video with TikTok on the account @ivytheberner, which has amassed 1.6 million views. There is just something about a kid and dog that people love.
One follower wrote, “Her arms circling with freedom – what a wonderful childhood moment for her. She’s building self-trust and confidence. Love parents (and dogs) who allow space for kids to grow.”

Ivy and the child share lots of adventures.
Ryan recently posted another video of his daughter playing in the backyard on a swing set while Ivy watched. The caption reads, “When you’re the bodyguard but your protectee is a thrill seeker.”
Ivy watches as the child climbs, moves, and swings. But the dog doesn’t approve of Ryan’s parenting skills. She clearly thinks he’s putting his little girl in harm’s way and barks as she swings. It’s hilariously sweet.
A follower joked, “Ivy needs a drink.”
“Ivy’s one swing away from calling backup,” another person jokingly suggested.
