Are you traveling with kids this holiday season or have you in years past? You know that it can be totally exhausting. This is especially true if you are on a long flight with little kids. It’s hard for them, too. They are stuck on a plane for a long time, which can be tedious. But this holiday season, a former flight attendant has a smart travel hack we can all get behind.
Nichola Knox spent time as a flight attendant, and now the mom and influencer shared one of her greatest travel tips. She said all parents should get on the plane with a roll of painter’s tape. It can serve as a lifesaver on a long flight. And honestly, we’re here for it.

Knox shared her tip in an Instagram reel.
Knox showed us how to use the painter’s tape for almost everything.
“Save this for your next plane ride with kids! ✈️✈️ Painters tape guys – I swear to you. It’s great on the plane but also on vacation. Label the kid’s cups, a bandaid for when your toddler 'really needs one,’ taping over locks and drawers you don’t want them getting into. The list goes on. It’s forever the ‘weird’ thing I bring on trips,” she wrote.
The video shows a very busy toddler on the plane going wild with the tape and having a great time during the flight.
Truly, the tape has so many uses.
Knox covers up things on the plane she doesn’t want her toddler to get into. She uses it to hold up a tiny snack cup. And this might be our favorite: She runs it across two tray tables to make tracks for his toy truck. This hack is a really good one.
But she wants more tips and asked Instagrammers for their ideas, too.
“If you can think of another cool use please comment with it below because I love it!!” she wrote.
Some Instagrammers loved it.
Parents are always looking for ways to keep kids busy on their flights, and you can bet a lot of them will be grabbing a roll of tape for their next trip to the airport.
“Amazing! Also sometimes taping contractor garbage bags over windows for blacking out sleeping rooms and taping over light switches you don’t want them playing with!” one person suggested.
“Inflight entertainment that we never thought of! Very creative. ✈️,” an airline representative commented.
“This is incredible. Huge brain energy. It potentiates their creativity, is ecological, mess free, and useful too. Incredible mom right there,” someone else wrote.
And then, of course, there were people with unkind comments.
The kid haters came out of the woodwork.
“Omg. Just leave you annoying kids at home,” one person commented.
“If you bring kids on a plane you should pay extra," another person wrote.
And then there was this naysayer with a lot to say:
“Please don’t encourage people to do this. Not everyone will clean up after themselves leaving airline employees to peel tape off of all sorts of surfaces. It’s also wasteful. They sell containers that allow you to safely bring legos on board they fit on the tray tables and are easy to clean up and reusable.”

Why are moms always criticized?
It seems like moms can’t do anything right. As one person pointed out, “Screaming child- people are mad, happy child- people are mad.”
Another person agreed. “Moms aren’t made to win apparently ," the person wrote.
Nichola, we love it. Your little guy obviously loved the flight and was well-behaved. We’re sure you cleaned up after yourselves, and the people around you certainly loved an occupied child instead of a screamer. We’re with you, momma.
