It Sounds Like Kate Middleton Isn’t So Sure About Prince William’s Beard

Kate Middleton has finally responded to a pressing question that lots of royal fans have been wondering about: How does she feel about her husband’s beard? Although previous reports suggested that the Princess of Wales was probably a fan of Prince William’s current look, it sounds like she might actually be hoping it’s just a phase he’s going through. According to Princess Catherine, William’s beard might not be around for much longer.

Previously, William’s former communications secretary addressed Kate’s feelings about the beard.

His former communications secretary, Jason Knauf, was asked about Prince William’s facial hair while on 60 Minutes Australia. He hadn’t asked Kate how she felt about the beard, but he suspected that she liked it. “If she didn’t like it, it wouldn’t be there. I could tell you that!” he said.

However, Kate’s description feels a bit different.

During a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Wellington Barracks on March 17, Kate spoke about her husband’s beard, suggesting it might be temporary. “These trends come and go,” she said of the beard, per Hello! magazine. “I was saying to my husband, I’m not sure how long he’s going to keep his for.”

Is she hoping it’s just a phase?

Kate’s exact feelings about William’s beard remain unclear. Previously, a lip reader thought Kate spoke about how attractive her husband looked with a beard while talking to the Duchess of Edinburgh. According to the lip reader, Sophie seemed to ask Kate, “What, you like a beard?” That lip reader thought Kate responded with, “I find it quite rousing.”

Another lip reader, however, had a different interpretation of the conversation. The second lip reader thought Kate said her husband’s beard is “never quite rounded.”

There’s one thing we know for sure though.

Princess Charlotte was definitely not a fan of her father’s beard at first. In fact, William’s beard made his daughter cry. “Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, the first one I got tears, so I had to shave it off,” William said, per People. “Then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second, and I convinced her it was going to be okay.”

A lot of royal fans like the beard.

Though Kate seemed to be suggesting that her husband might not be sporting a beard for much longer, some royal fans love the look.

“Prince William with a beard … Lucky, lucky Princess of Wales,” one person wrote on X. A second royal fan clearly hopes the beard is not just a passing trend. “Hoping the beard is here to stay,” the person wrote.
