Madison “Maddie” Brush feels very strongly about where she stands with her father, Kody Brown. In a recent episode of her new podcast, The Authentic Society with cohost Jayme Byrd Langley, the 29-year-old daughter of Janelle Brown opened up about the state of her and Kody’s relationship. The podcast episode — which was the second episode — aired on November 11 and was titled “The Boundary Blueprint.” As for a boundary Maddie has set in place with her father, she made the decision to go “no contact” with him.

She says Kody doesn't like having a mirror held up to him.
“I have no contact with some of my family, and it’s because of stuff that has happened,” Maddie started within the first six minutes of the episode. She then went on to explain that one of the reasons she went no contact with Kody is because he “didn’t like a mirror” being held up to him and because he has a lot of anger. “I know this firsthand.”
Maddie says her dad doesn't respect boundaries.
Later in the episode, Maddie and Jayme spoke about the “skewed” idea that blood is thicker than water. “Some people just don’t deserve to be in your life,” Maddie said. “He [Kody] doesn’t have any respect for boundaries. And so it’s like you have to play by his rules, and I just don’t care to do that.”

She also struggles sometimes with being too confrontational with her mom.
Maddie also revealed that she has trouble being upfront with her mom at times. “Sometimes I struggle with my mom because my mom is the nicest person ever and she struggles with it. So when I’m trying to bring something up to her, I’m trying to not also hurt her feelings.”
Janelle once even let Maddie know that she’s very blunt. “I was like, ‘Is that a good thing?’ And she was like, ‘I think so, but sometimes you can be a little rude.’ And I was like ‘OK, noted. I’ll work on that.'”
Fans responded to the podcast.
A Reddit thread recapped the entire episode, and fans had some things to say.
“Why does this podcast just sound like an excuse to be passive aggressive about the family members she doesn’t like,” one user questioned.
“As much as I agree that Kody and Robyn and others in her family are toxic and I don’t blame her for going no contact, Maddie is just showing that she’s just as toxic, just more covert and vindictive in the way she’s going about it,” another person commented. “She’s obviously trying to legit trash them with insinuations but giving herself enough plausible deniability to walk it back if people get p—ed about it, and she talks about gaslighting!!!!!”
Other people found Maddie's speaking out to be inspiring.
Although some people negatively reacted to the podcast episode, others were thankful for Maddie’s honesty. “Maddie is so thoughtful,” one person wrote.
“Maddie is such an inspiration. So honest and vulnerable,” another person commented. “She is a strong woman. Just like her mom! You two are the best!”
