Breastfeeding is a journey and can be extremely challenging. Any mom who has breastfed a baby at any point in her life will tell you there are ups and downs, but many believe it is worth the struggle. Every mom has her own breastfeeding goals. Some want to get a few weeks or months under their belt, while others hope to breastfeed for a year and beyond. Madison Simpson, 22, advocates for extended breastfeeding on social media. She and her daughter, Amaya, are still nursing at nearly 3 years old, and Simpson’s caught plenty of flak online. But she’s happy to let the haters hate.
Simpson posts about motherhood and her breastfeeding journey on her TikTok, @madie_sky_simpson. In addition to her daughter, Simpson has a 3-year-old son, Amirion. She explained to People that when she had Amirion, she struggled with breastfeeding and only nursed him for a few months. But when Amaya came along, things were different. She weighed 4 pounds and was diagnosed with intrauterine growth restriction, and doctors expected her to remain small. Simpson dedicated herself to breastfeeding to help her daughter grow.

Simpson believes her dedication to breastfeeding has helped her daughter tremendously.
“My son was constantly sick as a baby, and then my daughter, she was not, and I think it has to do with the antibiotics from the breast milk,” Simpson told People. “[Amirion] was in the doctor’s office three or four times a month, sick with different stuff. And [Amaya], she never got sick. She never got anything compared to him. Whenever we all got the stomach bug, she didn’t get it.”

Because Simpson shares her life on social media, including her children, many people criticize her parenting. This mom isn’t interested in what the haters have to say.
She told People, “I get a lot of comments that she’s obese, and she’s not obese. I took her to the doctor and videotaped the entire [appointment], the doctor saying that she wasn’t obese,” Simpson said. “People think they know what a height and weight chart is, like, ‘Oh, you’re 99% fatter than people.’ No, they’re 99% taller than kids their age.”

Simpson uses her TikTok account to educate others about the benefits of breastfeeding and it’s impressed many people.
A follower shared kind words on a recent video. “Ya know you need to ignore all the trolls and negativity. All that you have been through you should be very proud of who you are. You are sober, a good mother, and good person. Have confidence,” the person wrote.
Someone else agreed and commented, “So proud of you for not listening to other people’s opinions or judgement you do what’s best for you and your daughter.”
