Man Goes Viral With Pregnancy Sleep Hack He Invented for His Wife

TikTok is going crazy over a man who came up with a genius pregnancy sleep hack for his wife. Pregnancy comes with a lot of discomforts. There’s the nausea, heartburn, fatigue, and swollen feet, and then there’s only being able to sleep on your side when you really want to sleep face down. Well, this husband solved that problem for his wife and went viral on TikTok in the process.

Tony Lopez of Dallas, who goes by @luxuryrenovation, cut a hole out of a twin size memory foam mattress for his wife to be able to lay face down. It’s such a simple solution, but the fact that he took initiative in the first place speaks volumes.

Sleep problems are a common issue for pregnant women. A study on sleep issues in pregnant women published in 2020 showed that of the 7207 respondents included in the study, 77.09% reported sleep problems ranging from insomnia to frequent waking, per National Library of Medicine. It’s a fact that resonated with many TikTokers, as the man’s video received more than 1.5 million views and tons of comments asking how he did it and saying they needed one too.

Taking initiative says a lot about a man, and that’s exactly what this husband did for his pregnant wife.

Plenty of men and husbands have likely heard their pregnant spouses or partners complain about being uncomfortable when they’re trying to sleep, but Lopez actually took steps to make the situation better for his wife.

Lopez posted the video with the text overlay, “When your pregnant wife says she wants to lay face down.” Then the video shows a mattress with a hole in it covered with a sheet.

He explained in the comments that he took a foam mattress and cut a hole into it — a simple but also genius solution at the same time, as many fellow TikTokers pointed out.

The man shared they are getting a patent for his idea after receiving an overwhelmingly positive response.

In a follow-up video, Lopez thanked people for the kind comments and support for his idea. He also shared they are getting a patent and contemplating mass producing.

“We did get a provisional patent on this idea right here. So we’re OK on that,” he said. “Right now, we are thinking about moving through with it and mass producing them.”

He even shared a preorder link through eBay in his bio.

Pregnant women lose a lot of sleep, and what little sleep they do get is often uncomfortable.

There’s undoubtedly a huge market for Lopez’s brilliant idea. Sleep isn’t a luxury for pregnant women; it’s a necessity, although many pregnant women are told sleep loss just comes with the territory. There are many reasons for sleep loss during pregnancy, such as waking throughout the night to use the restroom or because of discomfort. But adequate sleep is important for a healthy pregnancy.

A sleep study found that women in their first trimester who got less than five hours of sleep a night are 10 times more likely to get preeclampsia later in pregnancy, according to Family Doctor, a serious condition.

Persistent sleep issues should be brought to a doctor, but having a pregnancy-friendly mattress certainly doesn’t hurt either.

TikTok users are praising this man for seeing a problem and providing a solution.

Many TikTokers admire Lopez as a man, husband, and father for seeking out a solution to solve his wife’s discomfort.

“THE WAY MY EYES OPENED!! I NEED THIS!!! I am a belly sleeper, always,” one commenter shared. “I can’t sleep on my sides I need this!”

Another user wrote, “did you cut out part of the bed!? if it’s memory foam and can put it back later on, YOU ARE A GENIUS.”

There are always haters on TikTok, however, and some people pointed out that if it was a mattress made with fiberglass, it would be dangerous to use if exposed.

As one TikToker commented, “Don’t cut the memory foam mattress unless you know it doesn’t have fiberglass.”

“Please look at your memory foam mattress materials before cutting!! A lot of them have fiberglass in them,” someone else warned.

Lopez responded to those concerns, confirming that it was just a foam mattress topper with no fiberglass.
