Michael Strahan ‘So Excited’ to be a Granddad, Announces Arrival of First Grandchild

Michael Strahan is a grandfather! The Good Morning America coanchor announced the news during Fox NFL Sunday on September 22. After being prodded by his cohost Howie Long, Michael responded, “Yes! I am a grandfather, everybody,” as he pumped his fist into the air, according to The Bump. His daughter, Tanita Strahan, recently welcomed her first child, a son named Onyx. The 52-year-old journalist also announced the news on GMA on September 24.

He's 'so excited.'

As his cohosts congratulated him, Michael spoke about how overjoyed he is. “It is amazing,” he said, adding that Onyx was born on September 22, 2024, at 2:30 in the morning. “I am so excited. I’m so happy. A great addition to the family.”

Fans congratulated him.

“Wow granddad Michael,” one person shared. “Congratulations Michael!! What a beautiful blessing for your family!” another commenter wrote. Someone else pointed out that they had no idea he had another daughter.

Who is Tanita?

Tanita Strahan is the eldest daughter of Michael and his ex-wife Wanda Hutchins. She was born in Germany, and according to her Instagram profile she is currently working as an illustrator in Los Angeles.

Michael says they're doing well.

On Fox NFL Sunday, Michael said his daughter and grandson are “fantastic.” He also described becoming a granddad as a “really special” experience and opened up to his cohosts. “I know you guys have gone through this, and now I’m just happy to be able to join you in that club.”

Aside from Tanita, Michael is father to Michael Jr., 29, whom he also shares with Wanda. He is also dad to twins Isabella and Sophia, 19, whom he shares with his second ex-wife, Jean Muggli. Isabella recently announced that she is cancer-free.
