Mom’s Disney-Inspired Baby Name Sparks Backlash

Struggling to choose the right baby name is not an unusual experience. But some parents, in their desire for a unique name, end up choosing names that are interesting, or even controversial. Such was the case for a mom who ended up naming her child after a popular Disney character. While the name could definitely be interpreted as Disney-inspired, naysayers slammed the mom for giving her child a “stripper name.”

Two influencers actually chose the controversial baby name at around the same time.

When former Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague chose the name Bambi for her baby girl, she thought it was “really really unusual” and “unique” — but “beautiful” at the same time, per the Daily Mail. “I do not know anybody else with the name,” she said at the time. Then, influencer Indy Clinton unknowingly chose the same name for her daughter.

Molly-Mae knew some fans wouldn’t love the name Bambi, but she wasn’t exactly prepared for the amount of hate she would get for it. Indy, on the other hand, didn’t really care what other people had to say about the name.

Indy explained what the name meant to her.

According to the Mirror, Indy is a big fan of the Disney character Bambi. Originally, she wasn’t planning on naming her daughter after the character though. It was only after she saw her baby girl’s “big brown eyes” that she decided the name Bambi made the most sense for her daughter.

Similarly, Molly-Mae’s love for the name Bambi originated during her childhood. Ever since she was a young girl herself, she dreamed of having a daughter named Bambi.

But some people really hate the name.

Because of the negative comments she received after revealing her daughter’s name, Molly-Mae turned comments off on the post about it. On one of Indy’s posts about her daughter, a critic commented, “She gave her baby a stripper name.”

Bambi isn’t the only unconventional baby name Indy has come up with. Indy also has two other children named Navy and Soul. On TikTok, she shared a list of the other names she was considering for her children. The list included names like Heart, Halo, Cherub, Haze, Hawk, and Alpha.

Some of her followers didn’t think the name Bambi seemed so bad after they saw the influencer’s other baby name ideas.

“Are you naming humans that will be adults one day? Or kittens?” one critic commented.

Another person who seemed a bit skeptical questioned, “Where do you think of these names?” Indy responded to the comment, writing, “In my dreams probably.”

Other parents have dreamed of the name Bambi, too.

While it’s definitely controversial, Indy and Molly-Mae are not the only people who love the name Bambi. In the r/namenerds thread on Reddit, one parent asked, “How terrible would it be to name my baby girl Bambi?”

A lot of Redditors agreed that it was “not the worst thing in the world” but definitely not great either.

“Bad. Cute nickname for a baby,” one person explained. “But baby will grow up and be a girl, a woman, an adult! Can you imagine being a 17 years old teen named Bambi? Or a 51 years old businesswoman named Bambi?”

Another person called the name “the worst” because a baby named Bambi will also grow up to be an adult, and probably won’t love the name unless “she wants to be a st*ipper.”

For those who love the name Bambi, though, a few people pointed out the name works well as a nickname.
