Mom Tried To Pay Teen Only $50 for 7 Hours of Babysitting Because of ‘Inappropriate’ Tank Top

Finding a babysitter that both you and your children love is no easy task. When you finally have a perfect match, you’ll do whatever you can to keep that person in your corner. We’re moms, and we know that taking care of kids is, well … a lot, so paying someone an appropriate wage for guarding our kids’ lives seems more than fair. But one teenage babysitter shared an experience on Reddit’s Am I Overreacting sub about a family she babysat that evidently didn’t see her value.

The parents docked her pay because they didn’t like her outfit, and she wants to know if she’s wrong for being upset.

The 15-year-old girl, Mae, explained that she babysat for a family with two children and wore a Brandy Melville tank top with lace trim under a sweatshirt. She took the sweatshirt off when she was running around with the kids but was otherwise covered up. A few days later, Mae contacted the mom, Marianne, because she hadn’t received her payment yet. She was shocked by the mom’s response.

“We do not feel comfortable paying you the full amount after you wore such an inappropriate clothing to our house,” Marianne texted back. “The kids love you and we are more than happy to give you a second chance, but we cannot pay you more than 50$ after you wore that outfit.”

Mae clapped back and apologized but stood her ground, feeling that $50 for watching two kids for seven hours was far too low. Is she wrong?

Redditors quickly came to the young girl’s defense and offered advice. Plenty of people think Mae needed to give this one to an adult to handle.

“Uh-uh. It’s mom time. She should call them and f—–g SHAME them. Make sure your mom shames them for being predators who lust for teens,” someone suggested. “Make sure you tell everyone teen girls are not safe there because they sexualize young women. Women must wear full covering so they don’t tempt the perverts.”

Lots of people agreed.

“Your parents need to go over to their house with you and have them request your pay. If they still refuse to pay, then post on all of the neighborhood facebook and other social media groups what they did. Shame the life out of them,” another person wrote. “Seriously, if you let them move on they’ll do this to someone else. They might not ask you to sit for them again after that but… would you want to if they’re going to always pull this?”

One person suggested Mae give them a bit of sass if they ever ask her to babysit again.

“As a parent, just tell them they owe you the full amount and you’re not going to babysit for them until they pay you. When they ask you again, maybe make them pay up front.’ You vet my outfit and pay in advance,'” the commenter wrote.
