On the one hand, you get to have your genuine reaction recorded in real time and immortalized. On the other hand, if it’s a gender reveal gone wrong, that genuine reaction is online forever. It could be your reaction to learning the baby is a boy instead of a girl.
That’s what happened for one mom on TikTok who had her gender reveal shared with the world despite her off-camera cries after she learned she was having a boy and not a girl. In the video, she and the dad kneel behind a cake and get ready to take their pieces to see if the inside is pink, for a girl, or blue, for a boy. Yes, you guessed it. The cake is definitely blue in the video.

The mom-to-be’s reaction drew lots of criticism.
In the video, the mom and her partner prepare to learn the sex of their baby in an outdoor gender reveal. The account belongs to the dad, which explains why the video was posted in the first place. The mom might not have wanted this reaction shown to the world. However, the video is still up, complete with the mom saying she wants a girl and then running off-camera and crying loudly, seemingly in response to learning she is instead having a boy.
And the comments under the TikTok are not forgiving. As the internet does, it has lots of reactions to the mom’s reaction about her unborn baby. In fact, in a video posted after the gender reveal, which has nothing to do with the gender reveal video, users left even more comments criticizing the mom and her reaction.
Under the original gender reveal video, one user wrote: “This is so sad. Imagine her son asking to see the baby gender reveal video. I genuinely feel bad for that kid.”
Another person commented, “So do we not just want happy, healthy babies anymore?”
Someone else pointed out that “gender disappointment” happens with parents and that it’s normal. They wrote: “Gender disappointment is 100% valid. She will love the child no matter what, but she’s clearly going to be emotional and has every right to be.”
To that, the dad responded: “Exactly!! It’s hilarious she was happy not even 20 mins after this ! Thank you though.”
Still, another user went back to the other side of the conversation and added, “Y’all are saying gender disappointment is valid but if the dad did this the comments would be entirely different.”
In the video that the dad shared of the mom after the gender reveal, she goes about her day with a voiceover calling herself a bad mom and saying that she shouldn’t have any emotion. Clearly, this is her way of clapping back at those who are still commenting about the gender reveal. Other videos on the account show that the couple has two other children, both boys.
Because of that, other users commented that they can understand why she might be so focused on having a daughter.
And in the comments under the follow-up video, the dad wrote that he and his partner think the response they got is funny. Apparently, despite the backlash, they both have a sense of humor about it all.
