Mom Silently Gives Birth in Car on the Way to Hospital, Shocking Husband When They Park

Typically, a pregnant woman spends ample time in labor before she gives birth. She could cope with contractions from a hospital bed or the comfort of her own home for hours — and sometimes days — before giving birth. However, sometimes babies arrive sooner than anticipated — maybe even en route to the hospital or the birthing center.

That's exactly what happened to Brooke Canady, 30, of Lexington, Kentucky. She was recently in labor with her second child while her husband drove them 45 minutes to the hospital. Their baby boy couldn't wait until the end of their journey, though, shocking his father once he parked the car.

Brooke went into labor on May 8.

Brooke, who was 37 weeks pregnant, woke up that morning after feeling strong contractions, Fox News reported. She called her workplace to let it know she wouldn't make it to work that day and then woke up her husband, Jeffrey. By 7 a.m., contractions were coming less than five minutes apart. Brooke's doula instructed her to head to the hospital.

About 10 minutes from the hospital, Brooke knew the baby was coming NOW.

Roughly 15 minutes into the 45-minute drive, Brooke said her body started pushing on its own. They were about 10 minutes from the hospital when she felt her water break. That's when she told her husband, "I’m going to have this baby."

"He told me that he never heard another word from me until after we parked," Brooke told Fox News.

She delivered her baby herself at a stoplight near the hospital.

As they were stopped at a red light near the hospital, Brooke could see her baby's head. She grabbed and pulled him onto her chest without any assistance.

"This was the moment that my husband put the car in park and looked over at us," she recounted to Fox News.

When her husband realized what had happened, he was shocked.

Evidently, Jeffrey was so honed in on driving and getting Brooke to the hospital that he didn't realize she had already delivered their baby. "He looked like he had just been scared by a ghost," Brooke told Fox News. "And yelled, ‘AHHH!’"

Not long afterward, hospital staff rushed out to the car to tend to the mom and newborn.

Baby Truett is a 'very calm' baby.

Their baby boy, Truett, was born healthy at 8:38 a.m. He weighed in at 7 lbs., 9 oz. Brooke described her son as having a "very calm" disposition.

She also posted a video of a text message exchange with her sister on Facebook leading up to (and immediately following) the birth of her "car baby."

Congrats to Brooke and Jeffrey on the dramatic arrival of their baby boy!
