Mom Finally Snaps & Lets MIL Have It After She Refuses To Stop ‘Caressing’ Girl’s Face

Normally, we would find it weird to read a story about a grandmother who won’t stop touching her granddaughter’s face. But during a GLOBAL PANDEMIC? No way is that hygienic. It seems the girl’s mom might just agree with us because she wrote a seriously skeeved post onto Reddit's r/JUSTNOMIL forum and wondered if she was the only one who thought the whole thing was creepy.

According to the mom, her mother-in-law wouldn’t stop “caressing” her daughter’s face recently.

They were at a bridal shower and the mom couldn’t help but notice that her MIL “kept obsessively caressing my daughters head and face over and over,” she wrote in her post. “Fixing her hair, patting her, etc.”

As the strange petting continued, the mom eventually reached her boiling point.

She snapped and told her MIL to please stop touching her daughter’s face.

“We’re not even supposed to touch our own faces right now in this world!” she wrote.

The mom isn’t sure if her MIL was offended, but she feels proud of herself for setting boundaries.

It’s a skill that she’s been working on lately, but still, she’s worried that maybe she went overboard and overreacted.

“Of course, I second guessed myself [for] the rest of the day,” she wrote.

Some commenters agreed — this was straight-up strange.

"Touch her face all over and see how she likes it," one commenter advised. "Treat her like a baby."

"You're not in the wrong to tell her to stop," another person wrote. "Like you said, we're in a world where touching your face is NOT ok. She needed to stop and you needed to tell her, apparently."

"My MIL does this to my son constantly and I finally snapped also!" another commenter admitted. "She was also touching his lips! I almost puked. I had no choice. It’s gross on a normal day … let alone during a pandemic."

A few people thought the mom was the weird one.

"If COVID weren't a thing, I'd say you're overreacting," one person wrote. "Quit being a little diva."

"Potentially overreacting, if MIL normally takes COVID seriously then I wouldn't be too upset," someone else commented. "If she's someone that mocks people taking it seriously …. I'd be angry because you really don't know where her hands have been."

Later, the mom shared that her MIL did stop when she stood her ground.

But the two haven’t been seeing eye-to-eye for a while.

“[T]hings have been weird for us lately since we butted heads recently a few weeks ago over, what else, but politics and COVID,” she wrote later in the thread. “I’ve been more distant after she said I was ‘putting negative thoughts out there about my children’ when I said I was worried about them getting COVID.”

Really, all that matters is that the mom kept her daughter safe and germ-free.

“I really had to work up the courage to say something since I’m very non-confrontational!” she wrote.
