Mom Worries That Her Baby Name Is ‘Too Sexy’ & Doesn’t Know What To Do

There are no bad baby names. OK, I take that back. There are a few not-so-great baby names out there, but really the only person who has to approve of a name is Mom and Dad. But that wasn't enough for one mom on Mumsnet who was recently worried that the baby name she loves is too sexy. So she turned to the internet for some second thoughts on her favorite moniker.

The mom-to-be has always loved the name Ruby.

It’s a “sentimental” name with “family connections” she explained in a post on Mumsnet, “but coupled with our surname I'm just not sure.”

The child's name would be Ruby Hart.

To the mom, the name sort of sounded like the name of a “burlesque performer.“

“Nothing wrong with that profession, but not sure I want it connected to a baby and would she be taken seriously as an adult?” she asked.

“What do you think?”

Some people agreed that Ruby Hart sounded a little too saucy for a baby.

"Yes sorry, Ruby Hart doesn’t sound great," one person wrote. "Sounds like a Playboy bunny or dancer."

"Makes me think of Roxie Hart in Chicago," another commenter added.

"I don’t think it’s sexy but I do think it sounds like a name of a character in a crap detective novel," wrote someone else. "I’d think again to be honest."

Others thought the mom was overthinking things.

"No, it isn't too sexy," wrote one person. "I like it a lot. Some people might raise eyebrows but I'd love to have that name myself. I think it's fab."

Someone else chimed in: "Ruby is a nice name and Hart is a pretty generic surname. It’s a nice, compact name with a touch of quirkiness. I didn’t think of burlesque or porn at all and even now it’s been pointed out I don’t see it to be honest!"

"I think it sounds lovely to be honest, 'Ruby' isn't too unusual nor is it super common and 'Hart,' as people said, is a generic enough surname," a third commenter agreed. "'Ruby Hart' would make me think nothing more than 'that's a pretty name.'"

To me, Ruby Hart sounds like a 1920s starlet. The mom shouldn't let her fears stop her from giving her daughter this glamorous baby name.
