My 7-Year-Old Daughter’s Aunt Gave Her a Real Tattoo & I’m Furious

Whenever possible, it’s important for a child to have a relationship with both sides of their family. It’s good for kids to know the people, the customs, and the culture that contributed to the person they are. In the best instances, this extended family can help ground children and provides another source of community. But that’s not always the case. Sometimes family members are not safe to be around.

That was the case when one mother sent her daughter to spend time with her father’s side of the family and the little girl returned with a permanent tattoo.

Jayde, the girl, was supposed to be in the care of her paternal grandmother when she got the tattoo.

A mother, who goes by the name @newskii_soexotic24 on TikTok, shared that she sent her 7-year-old daughter to spend time with her father’s side of the family in California. She was supposed to be in the care of her grandmother, but at one point, she was with her aunt, her father’s sister.

During that time, Newskii’s daughter, Jayde, called her to ask if she could get a tattoo. Newskii told her no and hung up the phone, thinking that was the end of the discussion. When Jayde got home, however, she did indeed have a tattoo: a jagged heart on her leg.

Newskii first shared the story on TikTok, warning people, “Beware of who you let your kids go around.”

Later, in a follow-up video, Newskii sat down with her daughter and questioned her about the whole ordeal.

“Whose idea was it for you to get a tattoo?” Newskii asked.

“Auntie’s,” Jayde answered. She explained that even though her mom said she could not get a tattoo, her aunt proceeded to place the mark on the child’s body anyway.

The girl also revealed that the aunt also tattooed other minors. Newskii asked her daughter if her aunt changed the needle in between tattoos. Jayde said she did not. Her aunt didn’t use a stencil. Instead, she went straight in with a tattoo gun.

Newskii attempted to get the authorities involved.

Many wondered what Newskii planned to do about all of it. She shared that she’d contacted Child Protective Services along with the police. She’s in another state, however, and the tattooing aunt is unhoused, with no address on file. Thus far, police have not been able to locate her.

Plus, Newskii is pregnant and said, “There’s not much I can do.” Newskii also explained that Jayde’s father is incarcerated and she’s waiting for his response to the whole situation.

Jayde's grandmother tried to claim the tattoo was done with henna.

Sadly, instead of Jayde’s’ grandmother taking responsibility for sending the girl to her aunt, she’s attempted to deny that the tattoo is real and even started arguing with Newskii when she learned she had revealed the aunt’s social media pages on TikTok.

In a series of social media messages, the grandmother claimed that the heart was henna. Later, she even said that Jayde did it herself.

Newskii’s calls to the grandmother went unanswered and the grandmother only responded with private direct messages online.

Newskii's followers are waiting to see what Jayde's father makes of all of this.

People in Newskii’s comments were absolutely livid for her.

“They sound dumb,” one user wrote. “The way the tattoo is positioned, how a 7-year-old can do that to herself?”

Another commenter suggested that both the aunt and grandmother should be arrested.

Someone else mentioned the potential dangers. “The health risks alone in doing an at home tattoo. It’s a good thing it didn’t get infected,” the TikToker wrote.

Newskii’s followers are still waiting to see what Jayde’s father will say and if the grandmother and aunt will face criminal charges. In the meantime, Newskii said her daughter will not be spending any more time with her dad’s relatives unsupervised.
