A few weeks ago, an expecting mother’s baby was measured at 8 to 10 pounds toward the end of her pregnancy. Her doctor scheduled a C-section for March 4, 2025, but she and her medical team were not prepared for what was to come when that day arrived. While in the delivery room for her C-section, Pamela Mann was surprised – and concerned – to hear people gasp.
Understandably, the gasping made her worry that something had gone wrong during the delivery. In reality, the doctor and nurses were simply shocked that the newborn was so huge.
Pamela’s baby was born weighing 13 lbs., 4 oz.
Speaking to Today.com, first-time mom, Pamela, 31, said she “had no idea what was happening” when the doctor and nurses gasped and said, “Oh God! Wow!” Needless to say, she was “freaking out.”
The new mom told WBRC that although she initially thought something went wrong, her concerns dissipated when she found out the reason for her nurses’ dramatic reactions was that she had just had a huge baby.
She told the news outlet that everyone was amazed. “Once they actually just said she’s just big, I just broke out into tears! It’s an amazing experience,” the new mom shared.
The average newborn typically weighs 7 to 7.5 pounds.
Per kidshealth.org, the majority of newborn babies weigh between 5 pounds, 8 ounces and 8 pounds, 13 ounces. Pamela’s baby, Paris Halo, was born weighing nearly twice as much as the average baby. The new mom, however, had no idea that her baby was huge. Paris Halo is her first child, so she thought her baby’s size was normal.
“This is my first child, so I had no idea,” she told Today.com. “And the nurses are going, ‘No. No. No. She is big.'”
In fact, the baby is so big that she’s getting a lot of attention at the hospital.
Paris Halo is in the neonatal intensive care unit, but she is expected to go home very soon. In the meantime, nurses are going out of their way to visit her. “Nurses are making special trips just so they can see how big she is,” Pamela told Today.com.
Though her baby is very big, Pamela’s pregnancy was normal.
She told WVTM that she had no idea her baby was so big. Now that Paris Halo has arrived, Pamela and other members of her family are thrilled. She told the news outlet that her mother is especially excited, as Paris Halo is her first grandchild.
