In June 2025, Theresa Troia became a mom when she welcomed quintuplets. Quintuplets are rare — the odds are about 1 out of 60 million. But for Theresa’s family, multiple births are not exactly unusual, given that she is a quadruplet herself.
The Texas mom told ABC News that for her, “the normal is multiples.” Theresa, 36, has three brothers. “I don’t obviously know any different, but it was nice growing up and always having a sibling there,” she told the news outlet. Even so, welcoming five babies at once was “surreal” and “scary.”
After all, Theresa went from having no children to suddenly being a mom of five. “It’s an instant family, but it’s beautiful,” she told the news outlet.
She welcomed her quintuplets via Cesarean section at 28 weeks and one day at Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. As of August 18, 2025, two of the babies remain in the NICU, but three of them have gone home.
According to Theresa, “they’re all doing great.” And she is too. At the end of July, the new mom told ABC 7 that she is “doing really good” overall even though “it’s been a roller coaster of emotions.”
“Watching them grow stronger has been the most emotional, beautiful experience of my life,” Theresa told People. “There have been moments of celebration and moments of fear, but every single one has brought us closer.”
When Theresa found out that she was welcoming quintuplets, her loved ones and medical professionals were skeptical, but Dr. Aaron Poole at Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare helped her believe that having a healthy pregnancy and welcoming five healthy babies was a possibility.
In a Facebook post, Theresa described feeling “truly scared” at first. “But the moment I stepped into the OR, that fear slowly melted away,” she wrote. “I saw the teams, the doctors, the nurses… the way Las Palmas Medical Center had every second planned and every role ready. All the drills they practiced, all the precision they showed — it made for the smoothest, most incredible C-section anyone could hope for. It wasn’t just a delivery… it was a masterpiece of love, skill, and teamwork.”
She added, “I still don’t know how I got so lucky, but I do know one thing for sure —I have the most extraordinary angel in heaven watching over us. My first love. My mom.Five perfect babies. Five strong heartbeats. Five tiny souls who’ve already changed mine.”
