Mom Says Rare Twins Were Born at Exactly the Same Time

I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of twins. Two people growing together, sharing a womb, experiencing the beginning of life together. Pregnancy and childbirth is beautiful. And there’s something so sweet about the idea of being born with another person.

When I see twins, I always wonder who was born first. Who took the leap? Was one more ready than the other? In the case of two twins born in Scotland, the answer was both.

After twelve hours of labor by their mom, Micky and Molly were born at the exact same time.

Diane McLaren of North Lanarkshire, Scotland, gave birth to simultaneous twins, Molly and Micky, on April 27, according to the New York Post. The two were born at exactly the same time: 11:53 a.m., after 12 hours of labor.

When doctors saw a head crowning, they told Diane it was time to push. It was Micky’s head, but Molly’s feet also were exiting the vaginal canal simultaneously.

Diane was confused when her midwife said, 'both babies are here now.'

Molly weighed 5 lbs. and 4 oz. while Micky was 6 lbs. 11 oz. “I thought Micky was stuck,” Diane said according to The Mirror. “I gave a massive push and there was a big whoosh. I thought I’d delivered my son, but the team were huddled together and then the midwife said, ‘Both babies are here now.’”

Diane, who was admittedly a little woozy, was confused.

“I said, ‘What do you mean?’ She said, ‘You have delivered them both at once. The foot belonged to your daughter.’”

Hospital staff said they’d never seen a birth like it. Afterward, doctors and nurses from all over the hospital were coming to meet the famous twins. When Diane registered the time of birth, the registry had to contact the hospital for confirmation.

Molly and Micky make five children for Diane and husband Daniel.

Molly and Micky were rainbow babies for Diane and Daniel, who lost a pregnancy in 2021. The couple, who have three other children, Georgia, 10, Adam, 9, and Rory, 3, were delighted to learn they would be welcoming two babies instead of one. Diane was induced at 37 weeks, in what she described as a labor more painful than her previous ones. It wasn’t entirely easy for the babies, either.

The twins and Diane are all doing well.

"When they were born everyone got such a fright,” Diane said, according to The Mirror.

“Poor Daniel said he just saw two babies flop onto the bed at once and thought the worst. Molly had a very bruised foot and leg right up to her knee, and Micky was completely black in colour from the neck up due to the position he had been stuck in with her foot pressed against him. But they were both absolutely fine."

Congratulations to the happy family!
