Everything You Need To Know About Target’s Car Seat Trade-In Event

We all instinctively know that children grow fast. We remember seeing nieces and nephews one year and finding them virtually unrecognizable on the next family visit. But witnessing this growth up close and personal is an entirely different experience. You’re the one constantly responsible for updating wardrobes, checking to see that shoes still fit and discarding or donating items your child can no longer use or never even wore.

The list is long and it gets expensive. And on that list are car seats. Although little ones can use the car seats we bring them home in for a long time, eventually their legs will be too long, the straps can’t be extended any further, and it’s time for an update. Never mind that they get really heavy to lug around. That's why we've always been huge fans of the Target Car Seat Trade-In event.

Target hosts its Car Seat Trade-In event in stores annually.

Aside from the crumbs, there’s a good chance your car seat is still in pretty good condition. It would feel like a waste to throw it away entirely. Well, we have a solution. During Target's Car Seat Trade-In program, you can bring in old, expired, and even damaged car seats so they can be recycled.

This year, the event runs through April 29.

You’ll be rewarded for your good deed. When you turn in a used car seat at the event, you’ll receive a 20% off coupon on the Target app or at Target.com/circle, to use toward a new car seat, stroller, or other select baby gear, including play yards, high chairs, swings, rockers, bouncers, walkers, entertainers, and jumpers.

This sounds like a win-win. This year's trade-in program lasts through April 29, and the coupon can be redeemed until May 13.

Target has recycled millions of pounds of car seat materials since 2016.

The program is one of Target’s efforts to make it easier for its customers to make more sustainable choices. The Car Seat Trade-In is a part of its Target Forward initiative, designed to eliminate waste. According to Target, 2.19 million car seats have been recycled since 2016 through the program. That equates to 32.9 million pounds of car seat materials recycled.

All types of car seats are accepted.

Participants can trade in infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases, and harness or booster car seats. Although the car seats must be delivered in stores, coupons can be applied both in-person and online. The coupon can be combined with other offers.

All stores are participating in the event, with the exception of select small format stores.
