Ultrasound Tech Told Mom Baby Had Lots of Hair – Her Prediction Was Only Partly Accurate

Ultrasounds are an amazing technology that not only give doctors an essential look at a baby’s development, but also can be fun for parents. When a mom goes in for an ultrasound, she often wonders what her baby might look like after birth. Will it be a chubby cherub with round cheeks or a future piano prodigy with lithe fingers? Of course, you never really can tell, but it’s fun to pretend. An ultrasound technician reportedly told Katie Baker Van Urk that her baby girl would have a luxurious head of hair, and they couldn’t wait to see it.

Baker Van Urk told Newsweek the ultrasound tech seemed confident. “She mentioned being able to see so much on the ultrasound and it [was] waving about, and told us she was gonna have a full head of thick hair,” the mom said.

But when baby Elsie was born, that’s not quite what happened. The mom shared a funny TikTok on @thebakervanurkfamily, showing the back of the baby’s head with a beanie on. She has quite a bit of hair peeking out of the bottom. Text on the video reads, “Us after our sonographer said ‘Oh my gosh your baby has so much hair! We can see it in the ultrasound!'”

As Baker Van Urk pulls off the cap, a voiceover says, “I hope you’re hungry … for nothing.”

Instead of a ton of hair, poor little Elsie is bald on the top with a bit of a mullet in the back. Her hair is certainly a far cry from what the family expected.

Baker Van Urk told Newsweek, “We definitely weren’t expecting her to be born with just one little, long patch at the back! It caught us all completely off guard, and we honestly couldn’t stop laughing, but we loved it.”

@thebakervanurkfamily We really thought she was going to come out with a full head of hair after we were told that hahaha Girls got the cutest mullet though but I can’t help but crack up looking at it 🤣🥺💞 #babiesoftiktok #babytok #fyp #foryou #viral #newbornsoftiktok #mumsoftiktok #babytiktok #funnybaby ♬ I hope youre hungry for nothing – Rune

One person totally understood and commented, “I had to this same hair pattern and so did one of my sons and my daughter. We call it the lil old man pattern. Babies with this pattern will grow some of the best hair.”

Another mom’s ultrasound tech had a similar issue. She wrote, “They always get it wrong. They said my daughter had no hair, but she came out with a full head of hair.”

Another mom joked, “Mine asked if I have heart burn i was like GIRL yes!! And she showed my babies hair…hoping he has a head full but this is still hair! I’ve seen many bald babies.”

Baker Van Urk told Newsweek her daughter’s hair certainly brings them joy and makes a lot of people laugh. “She’s still rocking her little dark mullet, and it’s become such a funny talking point wherever we go.”
