Woman Called 911 for Appendicitis & Ended Up Delivering a Surprise Baby Boy in an Ambulance

Every childbirth is a unique experience, no matter how many babies a mom’s had. Sometimes labor takes days, but some women end up delivering their babies in the car because it goes so quickly. Pain levels also vary dramatically, so a mom might not even know she’s in labor, particularly if she didn’t realize she was pregnant in the first place. Megan Isherwood sure didn’t, and her story is positively wild.

Per the New York Post, Isherwood told Southwest News Service she woke up in extreme pain on September 9, 2025. She called 911 for help as the pain radiated from her right side, and she began to vomit blood. The 26-year-old thought for sure she had appendicitis and needed help.

Emergency services rushed Isherwood, who lives in the United Kingdom, to a nearby hospital for suspected appendicitis. She said blood began to “gush” out of her at the hospital.

“15 doctors were crowded around her trying to find out what was wrong,” she recounted. “They decided to do a CT scan as well as an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy, but that was when they found a head and a foot. They then blue-lighted me to [nearby] Burnley hospital as they have a midwifery.”

That ambulance didn’t move fast enough. Isherwood felt the urge to push, and the next thing she knew, she’d delivered her son. “I was so shocked and flustered, I couldn’t believe what had just happened,” she told SWNS via the Post.

Isherwood named her son Jaxson. He was born prematurely, and both he and his mother were diagnosed with sepsis following his birth, but they made a full recovery.

Isherwood shared a sweet dedication on Facebook to the women who helped save her and baby Jaxson after his terrifying birth.

“These are the women that saved both mine and Jaxsons life on the 09/09/25. The hands that gave us a chance, the hands that brought my son to life again, the hands that rushed me away to finding out I had sepsis,” she wrote in her post. “Without these amazing, wonderful women neither me or Jaxson would be here! There’s some people in life you can never repay for me it’s these two! All I can say is how thankful I am to you both and how amazing you both did, words, cards, flowers can’t thank you enough. Not all heroes wear capes.”

We’re so glad everything worked out well for sweet little Jaxson and his mom. She knew her body was telling her something, so she called for help. Never doubt a mom’s intuition. It doesn’t steer us wrong. And in this case, it saved two lives.
