Love her or hate her, but if you have a tween girl, chances are the sparkly YouTube sensation JoJo Siwa has graced your tablet a few hundred times. The bubbly, upbeat, and all-around quirky singer and dancer is known for her big, glamorous bows and her penchant for sequins. Although JoJo has a lot of merch out on the market, her makeup kit from Claire's is coming under fire, as reported by Yahoo! Style.
The kit contains two lip glosses, eyeshadow, nail polish, and apparently asbestos, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA issued a safety alert March 5, 2019, warning consumers not to use certain Claire’s products after they tested positive for asbestos. And on June 6, the FDA warned consumers again after finding it in the Beauty Plus Global Contour Effects Palette 2 and Claire’s JoJo Siwa Makeup Set.
Claire's voluntarily recalled the products in the interest of safety to its customers, but JoJo herself has yet to make a statement.
The former "Dance Moms" alum gained her claim to fame as a dancer on the show, but the 16-year-old made a name for herself on her YouTube channel, which has more than 9.8 million subscribers.
The FDA has yet to release any recall for JoJo's other makeup products.
The pop star also has a "cosmetic" bag available at several retailers (Walmart currently has the lowest price). The Jojo Siwa Cosmetic Set in a Bag contains lip balm, lip glass compact, body tattoos, nails stickers, and more. And then there is the JoJo Karacter Box Siwa You Be You! Beauty Cosmetic Set, which includes lip crayon, nail polish, lip gloss, lip balm, nail stickers, nail gems, press-on nails, nail file, temporary tattoos, mirror, and mini pouch.
With a brand and attitude as strong as JoJo's, we're sure this instance is only a minor setback.
But if you happened to have purchased a set from Claire's, it's imperative you follow the recall protocol and do not let your child use it.
