Husband Secretly Switches Wife’s Tags to Make Her Feel Better About Her Size & it Seriously Backfires

The internet is roasting a husband who thought he was doing a major act of kindness for his wife by secretly changing the tags in her clothing to make it seem like she lost weight. Although the gesture was made with good intentions, some are saying it was actually pretty thoughtless and, at worse, probably made his wife feel awful when she found out.

The sweet man decided to take action after seeing his wife beat herself up for gaining some weight.

It was hard for the husband to see his wife be upset, he explained on Reddit. "She’s always sadly talking about her sizes and calling herself too big," he wrote. "She lost her excitement with shopping and a few months ago I guess I made a step to change that." She used to be a size 6, but now she's "more of a size 10 or 12."

He added that she often asks him to help her get a different size when she's trying on clothes, which is when he decided to make a switch.

"I don’t know… I got a bigger size and changed the sticker on the jeans so it said size 6," he admitted. And the secret gesture made his wife incredibly happy.

But then the husband kept switching the sizes to make his wife feel smaller...

He said he kept switching the sizes because "I guess it was part wanting to see my wife happy and part not knowing how to deal with the same meltdown happening every time." Though no matter what he wrote that he thought she looked beautiful even if she gained weight.

But soon his wife started to catch on that something was amiss. "I kept doing this and only recently did she realize that the tags on her clothes are missing," he wrote. "She asked me about it and I said I didn’t know, maybe the store doesn’t use them, but she googled the store and proved they did."

That is when the husband decided to come clean. "Now she’s furious. She keeps saying I’m an (expletive) and treating her like an idiot, lied to her, stuff like that. My heart is broken too. We haven’t spoken in days."

Some people agreed that the husband had misfired in his attempt to be nice.

"I feel for you. The correct course of action [in my opinion] would have just been to tell her directly she's no longer those sizes and not make a fool out of her," one commenter wrote. "There might have been a good chance of meltdown but it would at least have been productive. Sorry dude good luck."

"There is no way that would be productive," another person added.

And someone else pointed out that his wife probably told people that she had lost weight and was embarrassed when she realized she had made a mistake. "You made her feel stupid. You made her feel ashamed. You made her think about any moment she mentioned losing weight to anyone. She feels embarrassed," read the comment.

Other people thought the husband wasn't to blame and deserves some credit for trying to help her feel happy.

"I wouldn’t feel too bad your heart was in the right place," one commenter wrote. "Your wife also needs to have a reality check with her self and be fine with it or do something about it"

"Bro you are NOT a POS," another person added. "You were trying to make your wife feel better. Great intentions. Really poor execution. Do what [another user] said and it will most likely work itself out."

"I'm glad you understand how this could have went wrong, but I see that your heart was in the right place and it is kind of wholesome how this started by you looking out for her," a third commenter chimed in.

Hopefully his wife will realize that he had his heart in the right place.
