You know what they say … even the best laid plans often go awry. But perhaps not so awry as the plans of an anonymous man on Reddit, who opened up about his recent plans to propose to his girlfriend. Not only were they epically thwarted, but through a comedy of errors (not so comical for the man at the time), they caused him to lose the very ring he planned to propose with. (Man, it doesn't get much worse than that.)
In his post, the boyfriend lays out his plans like an itemized list, and it all looked rather simple.
Pick up girlfriend, drive to a romantic location, pop the question … and then kiss and hug and celebrate said engagement, because this is how those things are supposed to go.
The thing is, once he picked up his girlfriend and started driving to his destination, his eyes caught a glimpse of something he wasn't expecting … and everything from there went so, so wrong.
In the middle on the side of the road was a homeless man -- fully naked and chasing a dog with a dildo in its mouth.
Needless to say, that's not a sight you see every day, which is why the boyfriend became more than a little distracted.
In fact, he became so distracted that he drove directly into the truck in front of him and totally crashed his car.
Except it wasn't even his car — it was his friend's car. And what's worse, the ring got lost during the accident.
What?
If you're thinking this was just about the worst chain of events to ever occur before a planned proposal ... you might be right.
The man says he and his girlfriend wound up in the hospital, and while there, he says he managed to piss off basically everyone in his life. "Pissed off girlfriend's parents for almost Final Destinationing their daughter," he wrote. "Pissed off roommate for crashing his car. Pissed off myself for pissing off everyone. Ended off this weird ass weekend with nothing to show but bills and bruises."
Redditors were quick to chime in, with many offering words of encouragement to cheer up the guy.
"I guess if your girlfriend really loves you, it can become a good story 'how we got married' you'll once tell your children," one person wrote.
"Yeah. Sometimes I feel like 'the proposal I f—ed up so bad it became memorable' is almost as good as 'the most romantic proposal ever,'" wrote another. "But then I am both single as well as admittedly not entirely sane, so take with a grain of salt."
And at least one guy pointed out that the naked homeless guy definitely had a worse day.
"You think your life is bad?" he wrote. "Imagine the weekend that guy must have had to end up in that situation."
The anonymous poster ended things by saying his proposal plans have officially been put on hold, while he somehow manages to "unf-ck life."
I seriously wish him all the best. But I also hope that he writes a proposal update when it all goes down again, because man would I like to hear about Round #2.
