Even with the best planning, unexpected pregnancies can happen. There are multiple roads you can take when faced with a pregnancy you didn’t plan for, but sometimes, those options are not exactly what you want either. There’s a lot to consider, especially if you’re not in committed relationship and know you could end up being a single parent.
Holly Firth unexpectedly found herself pregnant after a one-night stand. Even though Firth took a morning after pill, it didn’t work. But instead of terminating her pregnancy, she decided to keep it. And now, she’s a mom to twins.
Her pregnancy was unexpected.
Sharing her story with Kennedy News, 29-year-old Holly Firth explained she had a one-night stand at a family wedding. She didn’t know the man she had sex with — they met for the first time at the wedding. No other details were given, but she decided to take the morning after pill as a safety precaution.
“I’ve taken the morning after pill for other reasons in the past and it’s never failed me before, so I thought it would be absolutely fine,” she explained.
Apparently, there are circumstances that render the pill ineffective.
According to the Firth, she didn’t know that the morning after pill wouldn’t work if she had already ovulated. She claimed she wasn’t told about the pill being less effective. “My period was actually due the day after the wedding, so I had definitely already ovulated and I think that’s why it didn’t work.”
Needless to say, she had no idea she’d end up pregnant. “When I found out I was pregnant I burst into tears. It was just utter shock,” she revealed.
She accepted and embraced her new reality.
At 29, Firth felt that she’d “been single for so long,” and might not ever have kids. So when she found out she was having twins, she “knew from then that it was meant to be.”
“I was single and I didn’t know the guy. I remember going out for dinner that night with my mum and dad and saying to them that it meant double the love,” she shared.
Her twins were born in February.
Holly Firth gave birth to her daughters, Charlotte and Rose, on February 27, 2025, she shared on Facebook.
“Regardless of if it was from a one-night stand or from a relationship — I’ve got the girls and I wouldn’t have them if it didn’t happen,” she said. “I remember seeing them for the first time and feeling such an amount of love that I’d never felt before in my entire life.”
She is ready to move into motherhood by herself.
Speaking about her daughters Firth said, “We’re going to be the three musketeers for the rest of our lives.”
And as for the girls’ father, Firth is keeping an open mind. “I have said to the dad that the door will always be open for him, if he ever wants it. He hasn’t used it yet, but if the girls ever want to reach out there will be ways of doing that,” she said.
“If that’s what they want then as long as they’re happy, I’m happy.”
