Mom of 5 Allegedly Shot Husband To Death in His Sleep While Their Children Slept Nearby

An Alabama family is facing an uncertain future after a father of five was killed. Shawn Watson, 38, was found shot while he slept in his bed, and police suspect his wife, Annie Huffstutler is the one who killed him. Police believe she shot him while he was sleeping. Five children were in the home at the time. As far as anyone knows, the children didn’t witness the crime, but they did hear the gunshots. Details about the killing are still emerging, but the woman has been taken to jail.

Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum told WDHM deputies were called to a home in Ariton, Alabama, around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025. When they arrived at the home, they found the man shot to death in his bed, per coroner John Cawley.

According to Bynum, authorities believe 42-year-old Annie Huffstutler shot Watson while he slept. The couple is married, but they use different last names.

“We believe there were five children in the home when the shooting happened, but none of them witnessed the alleged crime,” Bynum told WTVY.

Bynum stated that it was one of the children who called the police to report the crime, AL.com reported. The sheriff has been in contact with Wiregrass Angel House, which provides assistance to victims of crimes. It will help the family with the grief process.

“This is a tragic event for this family and for all those affected by such a senseless act,” he said. “Our prayers and full support are with them as they begin the difficult journey of healing and navigating life after this heartbreaking loss.”

Huffstutler was taken into police custody around 6 a.m. on June 14, according to Dale County Jail records People obtained. She is being held in jail without bond. Currently, she faces murder charges.
