Parents Charged After Their 4-Month-Old Died of Suffocation in a Motel Room Drawer Where She Slept

Justice is finally being served after an infant died at the hands of her parents. Destiny Campos and Jeremy Fancher were charged after their daughter was found dead in a motel room in Houston, Texas. The parents were living in the motel at the time, with the baby allegedly sleeping in a drawer. One day, the baby girl was found dead in the drawer, launching a murder investigation that took over a year. Police have now gathered enough evidence to put the former couple in jail for their daughter’s death.

Destiny Campos, 22, and Jeremy Fancher, 38, face charges for the May 2024 death of their daughter Brookelynn Fancher, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared on social media. Brookelynn, who was 4 months old at the time, was found unresponsive in the drawer where she reportedly slept. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Horrific details. I’m glad our team has remained relentless and sought justice for this precious infant,” Gonzalez said.

According to court documents KHOU obtained, Campos and Fancher were getting ready for a Memorial Day celebration when they noticed the baby wasn’t moving. Fancher told detectives he took her out of the drawer, and gave her CPR. At the time of Brookelynn’s death, the family had been living at the motel for over a year. In addition, the couple had an 18-month-old son who lived with them.

Medical examiner records show that the infant’s death was ruled homicide by suffocation, Fox 26 Houston reported.

At the time of Brookelynn’s death, Destiny Campos and Jeremy Fancher blamed each other. Campos said she was asleep and assumed Fancher had the baby. Meanwhile, Fancher claimed to be at the store and said he thought Campos was caring for the baby.

Campos told investigators that Fancher would put a towel in the drawer with the baby to prevent her from kicking it open, KPRC reported. The news outlet also spoke with Campos’ grandmother, Luann Simon, about the arrests. To her, it comes way too late.

“She told me it wasn’t the first time they put that baby in a dresser drawer,” Simon said. “When they wanted alone time or wanted her quiet, they would shut her in there.” Simon also claimed police found methamphetamines in the room at the time of Brookelynn’s death.

“They have been living their lives like nothing ever happened,” she continued. “They should’ve been charged with the drugs at the scene and held on those charges until the homicide charges were ready.”

Now, Destiny Campos and Jeremy Fancher face murder charges. In an update, Sheriff Gonzalez posted that Fancher’s new girlfriend, Marilyn Mork, was also arrested in connection with the case. She was charged with hindering apprehension and booked into the Tom Green County Jail.
