Machine Gun Kelly and Sydney Sweeney sparked dating rumors in May 2025 when a video of them talking and hugging started circulating online. Now, about three months later, MGK has technically addressed the rumors, but his response has left fans with more questions than answers.

During Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Sunday, August 10, MGK answered questions from fans. One fan, who was identified as Kyle P., asked the musician whether he and Sydney were “more than just friends.” MGK offered a simple response that failed to actually answer the question. “Kyle P,” MGK said. “Shut up, dude.”
Some fans feel that this response did actually answer the question.
Reacting to a clip on Instagram, one fan wrote, “That’s a yes.” At the same time, others seemed to assume the opposite. “Thank god MGK denied it,” another person commented.
Though Sydney and MGK have been spotted together recently and even shared photos of each other via their respective Instagram accounts, it’s entirely possible that their relationship has always been platonic. Per Us Weekly, they’ve been friends for some time now and appeared alongside each other in the 2019 film Big Time Adolescence. Then, in 2021, Sydney starred in Downfalls High, a musical drama directed by MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker.

The timing of their viral hug might have fueled the romance rumors. That same month, Sydney confirmed that she and Jonathan Davino, her fiancé of three years, had split up. Meanwhile, MGK and Megan Fox broke up at the end of 2024, just weeks after they announced that they were expecting a child together.
Now, after welcoming their daughter in March, Megan and MGK have reportedly been spending time together as co-parents, but are not romantically involved.
