An Indiana family is mourning after the unexpected death of their newborn. Sadly, Jason Weaver was only about a week old when his life ended. Although details have not been revealed, the baby died as a result of being bitten by the family dog. It is unknown if the dog was aggressive or if it was simply an accident. No matter what happened, it is an unfortunate incident that the family will likely never fully recover from.
Officers from the Markle Police Department were called to a home on September 4, 2025, after receiving a report of a dog biting a newborn, WPTA reported. Medics tried to save the baby’s life, but he died on the way to the hospital.
The baby was later identified as Jason Weaver by the Huntington County Coroner’s Office, per WPTA. He died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries, the coroner said. His death has been ruled an accident.

The coroner’s office also identified the dog as a 5-year-old pit bull/husky mix. Before the incident, the dog had “no law enforcement reported instances of aggression.”
“The Huntington County Coroner’s Office extend their deepest sympathies to the Weaver family and friends,” the agency expressed in a news release, WPTA reported.
An obituary for the boy shared that he was born on August 28, 2025. “Jason enjoyed the sounds of Rock “n” Roll and country music,” the obituary reads. “He loved the song ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.’ Though his time on this earth was short, he will be loved forever.”
The obituary states that a “private family graveside” will be held “at a later date.”
There have been no reports of what happened to the dog after the accident. According to an early report from WPTA, the incident was still under investigation.
