Savannah Guthrie Says Her Biggest Regret Was Asking Khloé Kardashian an Invasive Paternity Question

After more than a decade as a host on the Today show, it’s safe to say that Savannah Guthrie has done plenty of celebrity interviews, but there’s one from earlier in her career that she wishes she could change. During Monday’s episode of the show, Savannah revealed her biggest Today regret while chatting with guest Andy Cohen, and it involves one of her past sit downs with Khloé Kardashian.

The moment took place during a 2012 interview.

As Savannah explained on the show, when Khloé appeared on the Today show in 2012, she was supposed to ask her about the rumors that Robert Kardashian wasn’t her biological dad, but dreaded it so much she waited until the absolute last minute.

“I asked Khloé Kardashian, like, 10 seconds before we were going to break about the rumors that her father wasn’t her father,” she said, adding that she felt “all this pressure” from producers who wanted her to ask the question that she would rather have not asked.

Savannah called Khloé a “class act.”

“So at the very end we were like, ‘And Khloé, like, what about this rumor that Robert Kardashian’s not really your father?’ And they were like, ‘10, nine, eight…’ and I was so embarrassed,” Savannah said.

During the interview, Khloé replied to Savannah’s question without missing a beat, saying with a laugh, “I don’t know who my daddy is, I guess.”

“She was like, ‘Ah, nothing to it.’ We made the break. I asked the question, Khloé was a total class act,” Savannah added.

Khloé has been open about how she feels when it comes to these types of questions.

During a 2016 episode of her former TV series Kocktails With Khloè, she shared exactly how she felt about it when it seemed like everyone wanted to discuss who her father was.

“The thing that most became overwhelming was when the stuff happened with one of my dad’s wives,” she said, via E! News. “She wanted to come out like 10 years later — after my dad passed away — and say that I’m not his daughter and he confided in her. I was like, ‘Listen, you can talk about me and my sisters all you f—ing want, [but] do not talk about my dad.’ He’s not here!”

She has already responded to Savannah’s apology.

On E! News’ Kardashians fan account on Instagram, Khloé commented in response to a post about Savannah sharing how she really felt about that interview.

“She’s a doll!” Khloé wrote. “It takes a big person to take accountability and I just love her!”
