Police Discover Dead Newborn Baby in Duffel Bag Inside NYC Apartment During Wellness Check

A mother in New York City is facing charges after a shocking discovery. Gynae Kendall had allegedly hidden the body of her newborn son in a closet. The discovery was made after the baby’s grandmother called police, asking them to check on the mother. Despite the best efforts of first responders, there was nothing they could do to save the baby. Details about what led to the baby’s death have not been shared publicly, but an autopsy is pending.

Authorities also have not revealed much about the 25-year-old mother or her mental state leading up to her child’s death. She has already been arrested and charged, but things will likely change as the investigation continues.

Police were asked to perform a wellness check at a Brooklyn apartment about 7:30 p.m. January 24, 2026, PIX 11 reported. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive 1-month-old. The baby boy was identified as Adonnys Kendall. He was declared dead at the scene.

Sources familiar with the investigation spoke with AM New York, saying the wellness check was called in by Kendall’s mother. The older woman allegedly went to the apartment that day to check on the baby.

Kendall, however, told her mother that she had given her newborn to his father, but the woman wasn’t satisfied with that response.

According to the outlet, police searched Kendall’s apartment for the baby. They were shocked and horrified to find his body in a duffel bag inside a closet. The body was transferred to the office of the medical examiner for an autopsy to investigate why the baby died.

Kendall was taken into police custody and later arrested. She has been charged with concealment of a human corpse, but other charges may be added as authorities continue their investigation into the case.
