Prince Harry is living a much more low-key life in California than he was as a working royal in the UK, but is his new lifestyle a little too low-key? According to a new report, Harry is becoming such a homebody that some are thinking of him as the “spare” to wife Meghan Markle instead of the spare to the future king of England. At this point, it sounds like he’s barely even going out anymore.
A royal insider said he’s running out of options.
The source told Page Six that since Prince Harry is without a steady income right now, and his wife is known as the breadwinner in their home.
“Harry’s not really doing anything in America,” the insider said. “It seems he is still very wrapped up in the past. There have been rumors that Harry is starting a business, but he and Meghan don’t have the best track record. He’s really great at service — look at the success of his Invictus charity. He really should just stick with that.”
This isn’t good when Meghan and Harry reportedly have a very high cost of living, including annual security costs that add up to a figure between $2 to 3 million and a $10 million mortgage they’re still in the process of paying off. Montecito definitely isn’t cheap!
Right now, Meghan is the busy one when it comes to business.
Though it seems like her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, is now in the past, Meghan seems to have built a pretty successful business with her brand, As Ever, which is still performing well online as she continues to release new products on a regular basis.
Meghan is also believed to be the more social one in the couple. “I don’t think they leave the house much,” the source added. “Meghan does, maybe, but not so much Harry.”
It also doesn’t help that not all of Montecito’s residents are happy to have the royals in town, including Gail Pollard, a neighbor who told Page Six, “Harry probably came here with a lot of gusto, but a lot of it fell flat. I’d like to see him go back [to England]. That was the feeling in our small community. I don’t care for either one of them. They’re not sincere. They’re doing everything for fame and fortune.”
Ouch!
Their Archewell foundation may crash and burn.
If Meghan and Harry don’t figure out something soon, it sounds like their charity may be put on hold soon.
“The big question was, would Archewell close, or would another charity take it over?” another source said. “Harry and Meghan were looking to get a fiscal sponsor, someone to take on the outgoing costs and to keep things cheap. Really, it’s all smoke and mirrors.”
Maybe Harry will get his royal butt into gear and make things happen? In the meantime, it sounds like everything is falling on Meghan’s shoulders for now.
