Pregnancy is a wild experience; as your body is creating new life, your hormones are going absolutely crazy. The physical changes are one thing, but the emotional symptoms are something else entirely. For many pregnant people, this leads to more crying, more anger, and other emotional outbursts. Of course, these hormonal shifts can also lead to intense cravings or even compulsions.
Pregnant people are known to have irrational reactions to normal situations, but some actions and reactions are truly ridiculous. On Reddit, someone asked, “Women who carried a pregnancy, in hindsight, what were some of the most ridiculous things you did while in the throes of such hormonal upheaval?” and the women who responded did not hold back. Here are some of the crazy things they did:
Overreacted about food.
“Literally kicked my husband out of the house, locked the doors, and threatened divorce when he ate my last piece of pumpkin pie. Told him he better not come home without a new pumpkin pie. He brought one home. In hindsight, I’m unsure if I’ve ever felt that much rage and resentment in my life…over a piece of pie.” –OneDay_AtA_Time
“At 8 months pregnant, I told my husband, in total seriousness, that I needed to bake zucchini bread before the baby was born and have it in our freezer for when the baby came home. I said i felt like we wouldnt be ready for parenthood unless we had the zucchini bread. He was like, but the baby can’t eat it?? We still laugh about it.” –letsguacitout
“My first pregnancy was at the height of Covid lockdowns so I wasn’t doing any grocery shopping. I wrote “flavored chips” on the list and husband came back with only plain potato chips. I started SOBBING to myself because I only wanted flavored chips, but I knew it was just my hormones so I was trying not to care. But I couldn’t stop crying while holding the chip bag. So husband left without saying a word and returned with literally every flavor of potato chip. Then I was crying as I opened at least 4 bags because I was so grateful. Hormones are wild. I think that scared him into buying flavored chips well into my postpartum too.” –Nuggslette
“Purchased a carvel ice cream cake at the store every week. And at the whole thing myself. Every week.” –doyouknowwhoiam2010
Took ‘nesting’ too far.
“I was up at 2am scrubbing the kitchen floor on my hands and knees during my last pregnancy. My husband about lost his mind. I told him I needed to clean the kitchen floor before the baby came(sounds crazy in hindsight) so he made me sit in the kitchen while he mopped the floor.” –ZetaWMo4
“Bought rugs for the WHOLE HOUSE. Because my baby can’t sit on hardwood floors!!” –NurseHugo
“The cleaning frenzy is real. I cleaned every edge and border of the power outlets with a cotton swab and alcohol. To this day I do not know what possessed me to do that.” –MissIndigoBonesaw
“Scrubbed every possible nook and cranny of my home with a toothbrush. Angry, furious cleaning. Decided that babies can’t be around carpet bc it isn’t clean so we spent THOUSANDS ripping up carpet and laying down bacteria resistant vinyl flooring 😭” –googlesnoodles
“I repainted our entire house during my third trimester because i couldn’t fathom bringing our baby home to such ugly colors on the walls.” –sailorrose3
Suffered from ‘pregnancy brain.’
“I genuinely forgot words like ‘shelf’ and ‘dock.’ Also the song Harvest Moon made me sob uncontrollably when he would say ‘I wanna see you dance again’ because my feet were so swollen I actually thought I’d never dance again. Anyway I’ve danced and I’m fine now.” –blackdogwhitecat
“I discovered that my pocket was full of butter. I must have put it there, there is no other explanation, but I absolutely do not recall having done so.” –marmighty
“I woke up one morning to find my car keys and sunglasses in the freezer. I thought my husband was playing a weird prank but to this day he swears he never did it.” –JerseySpring
Cried. A lot.
“I’m a person who typically doesn’t cry unless something horrible has happened… When I was pregnant I remember I cried bc I couldn’t get my shirt off one day. Like it was stuck on my arms and head and it got me so frustrated I cried.” –terbear2020
“Cried over a broken dollar store coffee mug. SOBBED. INCONSOLABLE. (I was so clumsy during my pregnancies), craved and ate sonic vanilla ice cream cones constantly.” –Fantastic_Humor_78
“Cried like a baby for hours over a tree that had to get cut down. It was huge and beautiful. 😭” –moonglowgirl247
“I cried for the most ridiculous things. Literally. My saint of a husband, mentioned one day, that his shirt was missing a button. Nothing judgmental. He was putting his shirt away and just mentioned it. I cried for half an hour.” –victoriageras
Got irrationally angry.
“My one and only rage moment – where I threatened I was leaving and going to sleep at a hotel near my office for the rest of the pregnancy, was because ….my husband loudly jingled his belt buckle while getting dressed on a morning that I could sleep in. I truly understood the saying ‘I was so angry I saw red.’ I was over it by lunchtime and we laughed about it by dinner. It was wild!” –OpheliaMum
“At 7 months pregnant, I got out of my car in busy Seattle traffic to yell at an old lady who was behind me and honking at me to hurry up. I had my turn signal on to go left at a green light and was yielding to incoming traffic coming toward me. Never in my life have I yelled at an 80-90 year old woman until that day 😂😂” –SofieGirlsMama
