What to Know
Scream 7, the latest film in the legendary horror franchise, hit theaters on Friday, and according to early reports from outlets including Deadline, seems to have smashed box office records. This happened despite a boycott that some fans called for of the movie, and one of the stars wasn’t afraid to gloat just a little about the success it’s had so far. Unfortunately, that gloating has put Anna Camp into a very sticky situation with fans.
Why are fans boycotting Scream 7?
In 2023, Melissa Barrera was fired from the franchise after she spoke out about the conflict between Palestine and Israel, posting several times about the genocide being committed in Gaza on social media.
News that Melissa was being fired broke that November, with the movie’s production company, Spyglass Media Group, releasing a statement that said (via Entertainment Weekly): “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
Now that the movie is in theaters, fans have been calling for a boycott, and pro-Palestine activists also protested outside the movie’s Los Angeles premiere last week.
Anna shared an Instagram post in response to the backlash that had fans furious.
After the movie was out, Anna shared a post from a fan’s Instagram account that featured a screenshot of an X post that read, “The boycott didn’t work. The critics hate didn’t work. The pathetic leaks didn’t work. What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success.”
The backlash against Anna for sharing a post like that was swift, with fans speaking out against her stance on Reddit.
“It’s almost funny how bad she is at reading the room though. The other cast members, as pathetic as they might be for joining this movie, aren’t clueless enough to poke the bear making fun of the boycotts,” read one comment.
Another person wrote, “How embarrassing for her pretending as though there was a random, manufactured hate train towards the franchise rather than people rallying behind Melissa Barrera and the people of Palestine.”
She backtracked on her post almost immediately.
It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs . I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm. I’m sorry to anyone who was affected ♥️

It’s too soon to tell if this will have a lasting impact on Anna’s career (or how fans feel about her) but at least the post is gone?
