What to Know
Between rising convenience fees, high demand, and the price of entry itself, it feels like concert tickets have been getting more and more expensive in recent years (thanks, Ticketmaster). And now, during a time when people are having to tighten their budgets more than they have in a long time, it’s not surprising to see a die hard music fan choosing to sell her tickets to pay her bills. But apparently, if Katy Perry is the artist in question, you can’t announce your plans to sell your ticket without going a little viral in the process.
Katy responded to a fan’s stressed out post on X.
But I am looking forward to seeing you!

After Katy wrapped up her Lifetimes World Tour at the end of the year, she’s hitting the road again to play different festivals internationally, with dates in Brazil and across Europe.
A fan named Ria (who has since made her account private) posted alongside a gif of Katy, “I so badly don’t wanna be here anymore. I’m not cut out for this world like I cannot afford to live at this rate and I’m so close to selling my Katy ticket.”
Even though she didn’t tag Katy in her tweet, somehow, she managed to find it anyway and responded. “But I am looking forward to seeing you!”
It was definitely a sweet gesture, but some fans were convinced that if Katy wasn’t willing to reach out and help her fan out with the cash that she appeared to desperately need, she shouldn’t have responded at all.
People weren’t impressed with Katy’s response.
Katy Perry’s reaction to a fan having to sell their ticket due to the rising cost of living

In a debate that broke out on Reddit, people criticized Katy for not doing more for a fan in need.
“She’s too rich to comprehend our silly peasant cost of living crisis. So she went with something tone-deaf and bland. You know, her default,” one commenter wrote.
Another said, “Every time I’m getting over my dislike of her, realizing that my reasons are not that deep, she does something new that stops me in my tracks.”

Yikes! Others had a different take.
Though it hasn’t been confirmed, one Redditor did point out that the fan Katy replied to may not be new to her.
“Apparently Perry personally knows that fan and she had already gone to several of her tours,” one person wrote. “I saw other fans posting videos of Katy Perry sending them tickets, even helping one of them with visa process so they attend her tour.”
Another user shared a screenshot of a post that the fan made after they noticed Katy getting backlash for replying to her. “I wasn’t asking for money nor a free ticket,” she wrote. “TBH I never even had thought Katy would see it. I honestly am grateful for the message and her alone.”
So far, Katy hasn’t responded to any of the backlash.
