What to Know
Parts of Hawaii are being ravaged by historic amounts of rain and flooding right now, and Jason Momoa is speaking out about his home state. Fans have been concerned for Jason’s safety after he shared a video revealing that he and his family had to evacuate their home due to the flood, but despite how dangerous conditions are getting in the area, he’s still sticking around to help where he can.
Oahu experienced its heaviest rainstorm in 20 years.
As NBC News reported, over the weekend, Oahu residents were given evacuation orders, along with Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and the Big Island, which were all at risk of major flooding due to the amount of rain fall in the area. As the storms continued, it threatened a 120 year old dam that could have broken and caused even more destruction, though at this point, it sounds like the dam has remained in tact as the storm moved further east.
Fortunately, the evacuation order has now been lifted, but those who live there are still being warned about flash flooding — not to mention living among the destruction that the storm has caused.
Jason said he and his family evacuated.

Jason and his family were among the over 5,500 residents who were displaced by the storm, something he shared in a post on his Instagram Stories once he was in a safe space.
“I’ve got my family with me. We got out of the North Shore … a lot of people have been asking,” he said in the video. “Power went off. We’re safe for now, but there are a lot of people who aren’t safe, so we’re sending all of our love.”
He added that the North Shore is “pretty gnarly right now” and reminded his fellow locals to stay safe as he figures out how he can help his community.
He’s helping with the damage caused by the storm.
Jason has always been passionate about his Polynesian heritage and helping his community, so it’s no surprise that’s exactly what he’s doing this time, too.
Friend and fellow actor Ian Streetz shared an Instagram post on Monday morning complete with photos of Jason working hard to help those who needed it after the floods, adding a lengthy caption praising him for giving so much of his limited time to his community.
As soon as the disaster happened the big man was right back asking what was needed and handing out food, water, dog food, [hygienic supplies], whatever was needed. I know times are tough but if there’s any chance you can help in any way. Whether it be donation to charities which are offering help, I’ll put some links in my stories, or helping out with clean up if you are in Hawaii like the legends of the stunt team were doing, or even just keeping the people affected in your thoughts it all helps massively.”
