What to Know
One mom went viral for a hilarious video she posted on social media. In the video, she put ankle weights on her toddler who can’t seem to stop running everywhere he goes. It’s too relatable to those who have been around a toddler.
While many people took the activity as a stunt for social media, others couldn’t help but point out how she was damaging her toddler. It’s become typical for people on social media to do so, because yes, parents admit to doing bad things on social media. But other times, parents are genuinely being funny and are not intentionally causing harm to their children. However, there is no way to know for sure which is which.
Every toddler parent has felt the way she has at some point.
@finallyfarryn He’s gonna have toned legs before summer 🤣 #momlife #momhumor #toddlerlife #boymom ♬ original sound – 917JOSH
The mom, whose name is Farryn, shared an 18 second video of her 18-month-old son walking back and forth with the weights on his ankles.
“Just trying to slow down this toddler cause I’m TIRED,” she wrote on the video. “He’s gonna have toned legs before summer 🤣,” she captioned it.
People immediately started making jokes.
“It’s the fact that he’s still moving fast as hell 😭,” one person wrote.
Someone else wrote “it’s all fun and games until your out in public with a toddler who never misses leg day.”
“Using weights to slow him down while also conditioning him to become faster 😂,” a different commenter wrote.
Many people compared her baby to a popular anime character.

“This is literally how Rock Lee started,” one person commented.
“NO HES GONNA TURN INTO ROCK LEE. STOP,” another comment reads.
“I’m gonna guess an say you’ve never seen Naruto… your making the next rock lee,” someone else wrote.
For those who may not know, Rock Lee is a character from the anime Naruto. According to fandom.com, after Lee takes off the ankle weights he wears, he becomes significantly faster than he had been. Allegedly, Lee’s weights are “heavy enough to leave a small crater on the floor.”
“Now you know this mom never watched Naruto…bc she is giving him the Rock Lee training,” another commenter added.
“Someone plz GO TELL HER ABOUT ROCK LEE,” someone else wrote.
Of course, people had criticisms and didn’t hesitate to share them.

“As a certified personal trainer this is highly ill advised, ankle weights are terrible for full grown adults, you’re going to give him terrible knee issues, especially since he’s clearly in a developmental stage,” one person wrote.
“You’re going to mess with his bone development and more. I hope this was a joke,” another commenter added.
“Weights are harmful for children, imagine for babies! His skeleton and tendon structure is not formed yet, please talk to a doctor,” another person warned.
She posted another video of him running without the weights, but people were still fixated on them. “You’re going to mess with his bone development and more if you use those ankle weights on him regularly,” someone wrote.
She did clear the air about letting her toddler use ankle weights.
@finallyfarryn Let’s just clear the air here… it’s not recommended and we don’t do it. 😆 it was a joke #rocklee #strongbaby #fastbaby ♬ original sound – DjTattoodedteddybear
A couple of days after her video went viral, the mom made a new video addressing the criticism.
“For everyone wondering…no we don’t let our 18 month old wear ankle weights. He’s just this fast,” she wrote over a video of her toddler running back and forth down a hallway in her home.
She had replied to a comment on a previous video saying that her son had only had the weights on for less than a minute.
“Let’s just clear the air here… it’s not recommended and we don’t do it. 😆 it was a joke,” she also wrote in the post’s caption.
