What to Know
For some of those who troll the Duggar family and share snarky comments on social media, cousin Amy Duggar is one of the more annoying members of the former reality TV family. Users on Reddit even often refer to her as “Famy” due to what they see as her continued interest in garnering fame for herself on the backs of her aunt and uncle, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar.
So when she posted an Instagram Reel and a user shared it to Reddit, they quickly accused her of driving while recording herself. Whether or not she actually did indeed record herself while operating a car (which is impossible to prove, by the way), users came together to make fun of Amy doing it for the likes and engagement. Others, however, surprisingly came to her defense. Which has to be a first for Duggar snarkers on Reddit.
People think they spotted Amy Duggar driving while filming a Reel.
In the Reel in question, Amy talks about motivation, and how she was “humbled” the day she filmed the video. She says, while in the front seat of her car, “Today is one of those days where I felt really pumped up, like yes, like, I’m ready for the week, let’s do this. And I really felt like I had my crap in line.” Then, she adds, she was humbled when she realized she wore purple eyeshadow on her eyebrows.
It was a very hashtag relatable moment for the rebel Duggar, but according to the Reddit post, Amy loses some cool points for filming while driving. According to the user who shared the video, “Why pull over to film a reel when you can drive?”
Someone commented to say, “Now I’m picturing her getting into a crash mid-message.”
A user responded to that Redditor with, “She didn’t. I would say Jesus took the wheel but there are more pressing matters in the world.”
But, if you look closely, Amy is not actually driving. You can see the reflection of her phone in her glasses, and she is clearly holding her phone with one hand while the other hand is used to gesture and then remove her sunglasses. That didn’t stop users from immediately condemning Amy, though, when she thought she committed a big driving safety no-no.
“As a car seat tech the amount of people who film a reel and drive should be charged with reckless driving,” a user added in the comments.
Others surprisingly came to her defense.
Despite the post being about Amy’s so-called reckless driving, it does look like the video was debunked after Amy got a lot of hate from her frequent, well, haters, for the video. While some are still pretty sure she is driving in the video, others pointed out how cameras on phones flip things, and how Amy is clearly not in the driver’s seat this time around.
“I hate to defend her, but usually selfies are mirrored, and I don’t see a steering wheel in the reflection in her glasses,” someone commented on the Reddit post. “Is it possible she’s a passenger?”
Another user seemed to agree with, “I just watched it. She’s holding the phone with one hand and gesturing with the other. Unless she’s using her knees or has a self driving car she’s in the passenger seat. She also doesn’t have a wedding ring on her left hand (actually right hand) in the video. It’s for sure flipped.”
It’s honestly a surprising move for users on Reddit to actually come to Amy’s defense.
But people often troll her as being fame hungry.
Despite some users coming to Amy’s defense in the comments on Reddit, plenty have shamed her on social media for being a tryhard or for simply trying to get attention while pretending not to. Although compared to her Duggar cousins, Amy is pretty unproblematic, those who follow the Duggars to snark on them seem to have a special place in their social media comments for “Famy.”
