We expected things to get a bit emotional as Late Late Show host James Corden took his final "Carpool Karaoke" ride, but nothing prepared us for the waterworks that happened when Adele took a turn in the driver's seat. The pair got very candid about their private struggles during the series finale — and trust us, you're going to want a tissue!

Adele started off the segment, released on Monday, with a lot of laughs.
She surprised James by crashing his peaceful slumber with a set of massive cymbals, announcing that she would be the one driving him "to work" for the "Carpool Karaoke" finale. The two then cruised to the CBS studios, according to the Daily Mail, where James took a turn sitting in the passenger seat.
Unfortunately for him, Adele isn't the best driver, and fans likely had a good laugh when she admitted that she was "s—-ing" herself as they got things rolling.
Once the laughs ended, the tears began.
The prolific songstress talked about how much she relied on James after finalizing her divorce from Simon Konecki in 2021. Adele was on vacation with her son, Angelo, and James, his wife, and his three children shortly afterward.
"And we were on our way home, and my mood had changed and it was like the first year that I felt like I had to hold myself accountable, for just being an adult. Whereas the year before that I left Simon, you and Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me and Angelo," Adele recalled before tearing up.
Although she said James and his wife were always there to give her advice, it was hard for her to return the favor.
James admitted to struggling with life in the United States after a series of controversies — including one where he was accused of being rude in a restaurant — caused a lot of backlash for the once-beloved British TV host. It seems it threw Adele for a loop.
"It got me thinking … I felt so unsafe, with you feeling unsafe, because you've always been [the adult]. You have, since I was like 21," she confessed to James.
Adele admitted that one of her hit songs is inspired by her friendship with James.

Fans of the song "I Drink Wine" may be thrilled to know that it was inspired by Adele's conversations with James during that fateful vacation.
"It was everything that I was feeling that day," James told her. "I was floored by how you'd managed to take everything that I was feeling myself, and … life, and just put it in a verse."

Their friendship is bound to endure the coming changes.
As James closes the door on his hit show, he opens another door in the UK. Unfortunately, Adele said she isn't ready to head back across the pond with her old friend, but we have a feeling that won't keep the two from making plenty of time to connect — and commiserate — virtually.
We'll miss James and his caravan of singing guests, but we know he's eager to return to his home and start a new chapter of his career.
