Airbnb Now Offering an Exclusive Weekend at ‘Shrek’s Swamp’ With Donkey

Have you ever wished you could live in Shrek’s Swamp? You’re now in luck. Shrek is going on vacation and Donkey is house sitting for a weekend in October. Of course, he doesn’t want to stay there by himself (because, you gotta have friends, as he says) so he’s inviting Shrek fans to travel all the way to Scotland to come hang out with him.

You and a couple of friends can go stay at the swamp — and maybe see a few other swamp friends — for up to two nights from October 27 to 29, 2023, courtesy of Airbnb and DreamWorks. Donkey will be “absolutely delighted” to have you and your friends over.

Despite there being signs that say things like “Danger,” “Stay Out,” and “Beware Ogre,” you can still consider yourself at home while Shrek and Fiona are away. The mud-laden, moss-covered, murky-watered swamp cottage is tucked in a thicket of trees, and looks just like the tree stump where Shrek spends his days.

Don't just take our word for it, listen to Donkey.

“Shrek’s Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests,” Donkey said of his best buddy’s humble abode on Airbnb. “You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”

It's perfect for a quiet weekend getaway.

Inside the swamp is a studio-style living space complete with two beds. It’s perfect for reading a nice book with a cup of tea in bed or in a big armchair with nothing but the sweet sounds of nature around you. No pesky neighbors!

But of course, since it accommodates three people, you'll likely have a kiddo with you.

During your stay at Shrek’s, you can expect to:

  • Relax in the ambiance of “earwax candlelight”
  • Kick your feet up with a parfait (everybody likes a parfait!)
  • Swap stories around the fire until late in the night
  • Enjoy a stack of freshly made waffles in the morning
  • And of course, enjoy the ultimate privacy of Shrek’s trusted outhouse (you know the one)

It’s important to note that Shrek’s outhouse (which has the toilet, sink, and showers) is about 65 feet away from the main home for the ultimate privacy.

It's not a contest, but you can stay for a good cause.

Getting to stay at Shrek’s isn’t a contest! For the low, low price of $0 (a nod to the priceless refuge Shrek’s Swamp has provided fairy tale creatures of all kinds) you can kick your feet up. Instead, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to HopScotch Children’s Charity, which helps disadvantaged Scottish kids go on some epic vacations.
