Alanis Morissette unexpectedly invited a special guest on stage during her concert in Nashville. Fans at the Nashville show on June 23 had the opportunity to witness a special (and adorable) rendition of Alanis' hit song "Ironic" when Alanis invited her 8-year-old daughter on stage to perform with her. The performance was part of Onyx's birthday celebrations.
Alanis first brought her daughter on stage to sing "Happy Birthday" to her before Alanis and Onyx started their iconic duet.

Onyx performed alongside her mom with lots of confidence.
Though "Ironic" is Alanis' song, Onyx took the lead during this particular performance, confidently belting out the lyrics, "It’s like rain on your wedding day. It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid."
Her mom and the crowd sang along with her, but she was clearly the star of the show.
Fans were so impressed by Onyx.
Alanis shared a photo of the special performance on Instagram and X, writing, "birthday angel girl moment ✨ singing ironic together i love you so much onyx you are my dream daughter "
On social media, Alanis fans reacted to the performance, with one person writing, "There’s NO WAY to watch this without a big smile on your face ❤️ beyond cute!"
Another person commented, "I can't tell you how impressed we were with your performance and show…So cool to have you daughter join you."

Alanis Morissette previously opened up about motherhood.
Alanis is mom to three children: Onyx, Ever, 13, and Winter, 5. In 2020, Alanis breastfed her son Winter Mercy for the cover of Health magazine. She told the magazine that she wanted to appear on the cover in this way to draw attention to how women "are just killing it all the time."
“I love moms so much. If I talk about it too much, I’ll start crying,” she told the magazine at the time.
Her kids are fans of her music.
Onyx's knowledge of the lyrics to "Ironic" was pretty impressive — and it might be because Alanis' kids are fans of her music. In 2022, on Audacy’s "Gary Bryan Morning Show", Alanis said her kids listen to her music "even when I’m like ‘shut that off!'"
"They're so sweet," she added.
Onyx likes to call Alanis by her full name.
Onyx has taken her interest in her mom's career a step further. On the "Gary Bryan Morning Show," the singer revealed that Onyx likes to call her "Alanis Morissette" instead of "mom."
“My daughter has taken to calling me by my full name because she notices that no one uses my full name when we’re in personal environments," she explained at the time.
