Pregnancy is a challenging time for most women, and interestingly, for many of us, what to wear while pregnant becomes a surprising source of stress. Our bodies change every week during pregnancy, which can make dressing them a challenge — especially when we have to leave the house. We're sure the same holds true for pregnant celebrities, but they have much larger budgets and plenty of professional help to figure it out, and that means we can turn to them for maternity style inspiration.
Whether looking for some ideas for casual, everyday 'fits or figuring out how to dress up a baby bump for a special occasion, there is a celebrity maternity style look to match the occasion. Pregnant celebrities have been rocking top fashions and trendy looks as far back as we can remember. And even though there was once a time not too long ago during which women were encouraged to camouflage their pregnant bellies, it was celebrities who pushed those envelopes and defined chic maternity style.
Inspired by beloved stars who've spent their pregnancies in the public eye, we bring you 30 of our favorite celebrity maternity style looks ever. Keep scrolling to see them all.
Lucille Ball
Back in 1953, actress and comedienne Lucille Ball was pregnant with her second child and made history as the first actress whose pregnancy was written into a television show. She also pushed the boundaries of maternity style, which at the time was all about hiding the bump. Here she's seen in slim-fitting plaid clam diggers and a somewhat cropped tunic that was quite a bit shorter than most maternity tunics in the '50s.
Grace Kelly
Legendary actress Grace Kelly was the picture of elegance in this embroidered overcoat. She was, of course, also the Princess of Monaco and was expected to conceal her belly as much as possible while also looking flawless at every appearance she made. How she achieved it we have no idea, but she did.
Jackie Kennedy
Former First Lady Jackie Kennedy is undoubtedly a style icon and always looked chic during her pregnancies. But in the 1960s, a pregnancy was still not something to flaunt, so she dressed quite conservatively while pregnant. She always looked phenomenal, though. We're partial to this look featuring a three-quarter-length sleeve, mock neck sweater that she paired with a pair of slim-cut cigarette pants.
Cher
Back when music icon Cher was pregnant in 1977, she brought all the boho, hippie vibes, and honestly, this maternity look still translates today. It's pretty and looks ultra-comfortable too. Most importantly, Cher was totally authentic to herself even when she was creating another life.
Princess Diana
The late Princess Diana showed off effortless maternity style back in 1982 in this simple, bubblegum pink shirtdress. It looks super-comfy and casual, but paired with her white, open-toe flats, slim gold watch, and half-hoop earrings, she still looks put together. We love this color on her.
Glenn Close
Back in 1988, actress Glenn Close made the awards circuit looking pregnant and fierce at every stop, but this draped metallic dress she wore to the Academy Awards is by far our favorite. It flatters her baby bump without hiding it as was common in previous eras, and she gives off an awesome glam-punk vibe.
Madonna
Madonna has never cared what anyone thought about her appearance, and that didn't change when she was pregnant. The iconic singer was particularly fond of wearing baggy, low-cut pants and teeny, tiny baby tees that revealed her baby bump unabashedly throughout her second pregnancy in particular. It was an outfit that was super on-trend at the time, and Madonna wasn't giving up the chance to wear it. Plus, we bet it was cozy.
Jennifer Lopez
Mega-star Jennifer Lopez was just as glamorous as ever when she was pregnant with her now teenage twins Max and Emme. Jen looked every bit the glowing goddess we all know she is while attending an event with her then-husband, salsa singer Marc Anthony, in a gauzy, white, one-shoulder gown. Her shimmery makeup and thick waves took the look over the top.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé hid both of her pregnancies from the public for quite a while, but once they were public knowledge, she stepped out in some of the most gorgeous maternity styles we've ever seen. This beautiful, fitted blush pink dress paired with a mauve coat is chic, flattering, and would be wearable for almost any pregnant mama.
Beyoncé Again
We couldn't help but include Bey again because this emerald green dress is just so stunning. There's nothing more flattering on a pregnant woman than a perfectly fitted dress, and Beyoncé looked incredible in this one. The simple silhouette and classic color are both winners, and pairing it with all those bold jewels and baubles was an excellent choice.
Chloë Sevigny
It's no surprise that actress and fashion designer Chloë Sevigny looked amazing throughout her pregnancy. She had her first baby in her mid-40s when she already had a well-established personal style that she simply tweaked for her maternity looks. She looks a vision in this lacy white number and statement bag.
America Ferrera
Actress and director America Ferrera's bold pregnancy style is inspiring. This leopard look has so much personality and is still totally flattering on her pregnant body. We love that she also felt comfortable going with dark, smoky makeup. She exudes so much confidence, and that's always a good style accessory.
Meghan Markle
Although we now know how much she struggled to keep up appearances during her first pregnancy, Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, served us up all the chic maternity style while she was pregnant with Archie. One of our favorite looks was her neutral-hued turtleneck sweater dress and matching coat.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry did not sacrfice her signature eccentric style when she was pregnant with her child. From casual looks like this colorful textured dress to bold stage costumes, if anything she ramped up her quirky wardrobe choices while she was expecting, and we love that she stayed true to herself throughout. That's real style.
Katy Perry Again
We are so into this metallic look from Katy. It totally brings us back to the late '60s and '70s when many women spent the majority of their pregnancies in similarly cut caftans, except Katy, of course, glams it up. We bet it's still a really comfortable maternity outfit, and anyone who has been pregnant knows that matters.
Mandy Moore
Actress and singer Mandy Moore experimented with her style quite a bit when she was pregnant in 2020. From '70s-inspired maxi dresses to glitzy ensembles, she tried a bit of everything. This purple, sequined outfit was one of our favorites. It's just a lot of fun, and what better time to have some fun with fashion than when you're pregnant and can get away with pretty much anything?
Kelly Rowland
Singer and actress Kelly Rowland has had her thumb on the pulse of fashion trends for a while by designing her own clothing and shoe lines in collaboration with fashion brands. She was able to translate that experience into some really fun and chic maternity looks during her latest pregnancy. This all-black outfit is perfect for Saturday lunch with the girls or even a casual business meeting.
Kate Middleton
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, was so glamorous throughout all of her pregnancies. One of our favorite maternity looks though, was when she attended the BAFTA awards in 2018. Her flowy, dark green gown draped across her baby bump so beautifully and looked beautiful on the red carpet.
Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen looked incredibly chic throughout all of her pregnancies. This winter white ensemble she wore in New York City while pregnant with her son Miles in 2018 was definitely a winner. It looked soft and comfortable, but still super-stylish, especially when paired with the camel colored knee-high boots.
Gigi Hadid
Model Gigi Hadid's maternity style seemed to be all about simplicity and comfort, and we absolutely love that. Every woman should be as comfy as possible throughout her pregnancy. One of our favorite Gigi looks was this simple, stretchy tank dress. The ribbed fabric and thigh-high slit made it look as stylish as it was cozy.
Reese Witherspoon
When Reese Witherspoon was pregnant back in 2012, her maternity style pretty much defined the pregnancy fashion trends of the time. Even though it's been years, the maxi dress and denim jacket pregnancy look is still a classic. It's comfortable, but put together enough to wear almost anywhere, no matter how big the belly gets.
Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys' maternity style totally had a New York vibe. She managed to stay true to her roots in this all-black outfit complete with a leather jacket, big hoop earrings, and a bright red lip. This outfit is so wearable for pretty much anyone and looks crazy stylish without being complicated.
Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson looked absolutely incredible in this fitted floral dress when she was pregnant in 2018. The blue complemented her complexion and the style showed off her baby bump while still looking chic. Plus, the haircut and the shoes really revealed her personality. She looks so confident!
Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts is a true fashion lover and that didn't change when she got pregnant. She was always popping up in serious #lewks when she was expecting. We think she looks especially glowy and gorgeous in this flowy, yellow, floral dress. It has a totally bohemian vibe that we love, especially paired with the nude platform pumps.
Keira Knightley
Actress Keira Knightley looked utterly chic while traveling in Paris when she was pregnant with her second child back in 2019. Her flowy, leopard print dress, leather jacket, and slouchy boots were effortlessly stylish. She looked well put together without being restricted at all.
Blake Lively
Blake Lively was a total vibe in this sexy embroidered slip dress she wore while pregnant. Dresses are literally the best during pregnancy and this one looks easy to slip on, but still has tons of personality. All she needs is a cute pair of shoes—flats would even work—and a stylish handbag.
Jodie Turner-Smith
Model and actress Jodie Turner-Smith looked out-of-control gorgeous at the BAFTA awards in 2020 when she was pregnant with her first child with actor Joshua Jackson. She wore an incredible floor length, lemon yellow gown with a chiffon skirt and a plunging patent leather top.
Anne Hathaway
Actress Anne Hathaway is undeniably a style maven and that didn't change one bit while she was pregnant. The mom-of-two wore a stunning, white, haute couture dress by Oscar de la Renta to an event when she was pregnant back in 2019, and it made her baby bump look like a very expensive present.
Jessica Alba
Businesswoman and actress Jessica Alba was all about casual, comfy style when she was pregnant with her third child back in 2017. She managed to still look chic in an oversized outfit composed of a black jumpsuit, loose olive sweater, and a pair of flat mules. She totally has style without even trying.
Kerry Washington
Actress Kerry Washington is incredibly private about her personal life, but there's no hiding a baby belly at a certain point, so she fully embraced it when she attended the Emmy Awards in 2016, wearing a gorgeous black gown with cut-outs that framed her burgeoning baby bump.
