Long before Britney Spears was released from the conservatorship that spanned longer than a decade in November 2021, fans suspected that more was going on behind the scenes than meets the eye. These fans collectively joined together to form the #FreeBritney movement that may have been key in finally granting the singer her freedom, though there's been some debate about what was really going on during that time. But now, Britney has confirmed that those theories weren't all made up.

Britney shared her thoughts in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
Posting a clip from the opening of Beauty & the Beast in an Instagram post that has since been deleted, Britney wrote how difficult it was for her to keep "20 years of hard times" a secret until she wrote her book, The Woman in Me, which hit stores in October.
"Can you imagine a 2007 that lasted for three years that nobody even knows about ??? It’s over now and I’m incredibly sad about those times !!!" she wrote.
She went on to say that normally, she doesn't pay attention to conversations about her online.
But she decided to change things and read what her fans were saying over the past week, and she came to an interesting conclusion along the way.
"It’s weird cause although I do Instagram, I don’t follow social media, the news, and the fan chatter !!! I’ve been doing that this week and it’s weird cause it feels like a lot of fans already kind of know me and they way they speak is incredibly kind," she shared.
She admitted that her fans were right that something was amiss all that time.
"They always a suspicion that something’s going on !!!! Well guess what Britney nerds … you were 100 percent right !!! I don’t have time to speak about any of it cause at this particular moment it’s beyond comprehension !!!" she added.
She didn't clarify if she's just talking about the time she was under the conservatorship or fans' assumptions about her more recent social media content, but it looks like those who follow her career closely may be onto something.

Britney then explained why she chose a clip from 'Beauty & the Beast' for this post.
She even mentioned that the animated film is her favorite movie.
"Looks are deceiving !!! I’ve been turned down by so many and incredibly hurt by many. In a world where looks have always been important … where vanity lies … it’s the secret to steal a man’s heart !!!!" she wrote.
Britney has been more open about what's going on in her life recently than ever before.
Like she wrote, that's partly because she was holding onto so many stories until she could share them in her book, but maybe now that those secrets are out, she's feeling more confident in opening up more and more.
The comments on her Instagram post have been turned off, but reading this message must be so validating for the fans who have been fighting for her to have a better life all along.
