Candace Cameron Bure Admits Her Marriage to Valeri Bure Has Faced ‘Deep Brokenness’

After nearly 30 years of marriage, Candace Cameron Bure has been through a lot of ups and downs with her husband, former professional ice hockey player Valeri Bure. And though, by all appearances, they seem like a very happy couple today, in a new interview, Candace admitted that there have been some dark times in her marriage, including moments she’d describe as “deep brokenness.”

Candace said she’s been through “so many” difficult phases of her life.

Between their careers and raising their three children — Lev, Natasha, and Maksim, who are now all in their 20s — Candace told Us Weekly that it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for her and Valeri.

“I think that there’s always been a struggle with work and family life balance,” she said. “I think so many women experience that.”

She and her husband hit “valleys of real struggle.”

Candace said that today, she and Valeri have an “incredible, wonderful” relationship, but they’ve had to rebuild after going through tough times in the past.

“There were times of deep brokenness that I felt,” she said. “But God is in the restoration business. [God] loves to restore and make all things new, and he certainly has.”

Still, Candace and Valeri remain committed to each other.

She admitted that even though she and Valeri once hit a “breaking point,” in that moment, they decided that they wanted to repair their marriage into something better.

“Sometimes within relationships, we have to break it down, like, into just what seems like so many broken pieces, but then when you put them all together, you really can build it even better,” she said, adding, “I’m more in love with my husband today than when we met. He is truly my best friend. We’re in a different season of life because our kids are grown. We have two that are married, and you have to find your relationship again when the kids get older. And so we’re in this great season of life.”

Those hard times in her life inspired her to write her new book.

Candace said that she wrote her new book, Rise and Renew, while she was going through some of these hard times with Valeri during the pandemic.

“That really was the time where we were all going through a lot,” she said. “There were hardships, not just because of covid and being on lockdown and all of that, but just differences in my family life, even within my marriage. I needed to really reflect on what was true and right and not let my thoughts spin. And so that’s where the book really came from.”
