What to Know
Carrie Underwood has been facing more MAGA accusations than ever in recent months, and it seems like her supposed more conservative beliefs could be playing a role in tension in her marriage with Mike Fisher. Between her music, hosting American Idol, and her other projects, Carrie’s been really busy — and apparently, Mike isn’t loving it. They have a “traditional” relationship, and a source claims that her non-traditional career could be driving a wedge between them.
Carrie’s husband wants “normalcy.”
According to what a source told Us Weekly, Mike’s looking for a more traditional dynamic at home on the farm with his wife and their two sons, Isaiah and Jacob… despite the fact that Mike has held a pretty non-traditional career of his own as a professional hockey player in the past.
“As supportive as he is of her career, he’s a guy who wants normalcy. They are a very traditional couple living a not-so-traditional life,” the insider told the outlet.
They continued, “That has been the biggest struggle they have faced in their relationship, balancing their careers and paths, and letting each other pursue the things that make them happy while supporting each other and staying grounded as a couple. In the earlier years of their marriage, there was a lot of compromising.”
Carrie and Mike’s marriage takes work.
They also struggle with spending extended periods of time apart, which is hard to avoid with a job like Carrie’s that takes her all over the country (and even the world) especially while she’s on tour.
“Not being together physically can get tough to handle,” the source added. “Carrie and Mike would say that they [look to] their faith, which really is their foundation.”
And since they aren’t very similar people by nature, they’ve also had to put the effort in when they are able to be together. But really, isn’t that what most married couples have to do to make things work?
Mike was reportedly behind Carrie’s choice to take a step back from work earlier this year.
This isn’t the first report that has hinted Mike might be struggling with Carrie’s workload in recent months. In February, a source close to the couple told Star that he “desperately wants his wife back” after she’s been so busy with work — and it sounded like she could really use the break, too.
“[Mike] and others in Carrie’s life have been urging her to stop chasing the dollar and appreciate what she has in Tennessee,” the source said at the time. “The farm is like a paradise and yet, she rarely gets to appreciate it.”
Carrie is reportedly focusing more on her family than anything else this year, so maybe that will help defuse the tension between her and Mike now that American Idol is over?
