Most people understand that when you’re following someone on social media, reading their posts, and watching their videos, you don’t get the full picture of what their life is like. And sometimes that can leave a bad taste in people’s mouths if they see something that hits them the wrong way.
That’s what happened recently with fans and critics of the Duggar family after watching Joy-Anna Duggar and husband Austin Forsyth’s latest YouTube video.
On August 11, Joy-Anna shared a new video to her family vlog channel, Follow the Forsyths, on YouTube. The latest video, titled “GIDEON'S HUGE Surprise!” took viewers through a day in their life and the adventures of raising their three kids, Gideon, Evelyn, and Gunnar.
In this particular episode, the family prepared for a camping trip Gideon and Austin were getting set up for.
The video also highlighted their return and talked about some church services they attended.
Near the end of the video, something Austin said to Joy-Anna rubbed Duggar critics the wrong way.
Joy-Anna was talking about how they had just attended evening church service and that she really had a good time listening to the message.
While Joy-Anna was talking, however, Austin interrupted her.
"What was the message?" Austin asked Joy-Anna while she was still talking about the fellowship.
“It was phenomenal,” Joy-Anna said, seemingly confused on why her husband was quizzing her.
But he didn’t let up.
“What were his three points,” Austin says, continuing to press her.
“I don’t remember the points,” Joy-Anna replies, admitting that she just knows all the points started with the letter “P.”
Austin only really let up after Joy-Anna wracked her brain to remember the three points, admitting she doesn’t know what the third point meant and paraphrasing the message.
That part of the video didn’t go unnoticed by Duggar critics.
In the popular DuggarSnark Reddit community, Austin’s decision to quiz and question Joy-Anna rubbed them the wrong way.
“Questioning her on what the sermon at church was about to deliberately make her look stupid on camera, when she was obviously too tired to take it in,” one person wrote in a new thread. “Arsehole.”
“Austin is an a– and it shows in how he treats Joy,” another person wrote, “and she has been taught to keep sweet, unfortunately.”
'The way he talks to her is so condescending, drives me nuts,' someone else wrote. 'I hope she tells him to shove it one day.'
“Joy seems exhausted all the time in her videos,” another critic shared. “She's got a lot on her plate and its obvious that Arsetin does very little to help her and ease her load. He sure showed his arse big time in this video. Joy looked like she'd been crying.”
“Something about the way Austin gives her these looks feels scary to me,” added someone else. “I really think when the camera is off he’s got a huge temper and she’s afraid of him.”
