The movie affected Drew personally.

"There's a lot about substances in the film," Drew began. "A big part of it was I used to be a blackout drinker. And so watching this film was an extraordinary journey for me to forgive myself for that. Because I've put myself in situations I shouldn't have put myself in, and I felt so much shame about that."

She's been sober for five years.

Through teary eyes, Drew opened up about being sober. "I haven't had a drink in five years," she said, as Zoë congratulated her and the audience began cheering and clapping for her.

Fans congratulated the star in the comments.

Drew's fans commented under a clip of the episode shared to her Instagram account. "What a revelation, tysm for sharing Drew ," one person wrote.

"Love you @drewbarrymore and congratulations on 5 years sober!! It will be the same for me in a couple weeks. Just wish I’d done it sooner rather than hiding from my trauma with alcohol and only creating more issues for myself," another person shared. "Thank you for sharing and always being vulnerable, raw and real. ♥️♥️."

Drew continued praising the film.

"It is not only a film about the things that can happen to us, but it made me think about the things we've done to ourselves," Drew continued on the show. "Was there any part of you that was aware of that in making it?" she asked Zoë, adding that the film had "so many messages" in it.

Zoë opened up about directing the movie.

"The substances were, I think more of a way to get the characters to the most vulnerable place possible," she said. "When you let yourself go, when you lose yourself, it's so easy for things to spiral out of control and to your point as well, when we allow ourselves to be in those kinds of situations there's so much shame when we get to the other side. We make mistakes, we hurt ourselves. we get hurt by others, and then oftentimes we are left to deal with the consequences on our own."

Blink Twice was released on August 23, 2024.
